Hester Virginia Dillon Rose

Bluefield Daily Telegraph

NORTH TAZEWELL, Va. — Hester Virginia Dillon Rose of the Baptist Valley community of North Tazewell, VA went to be in the arms of her Lord and Savior Saturday, September 28, 2013. Born the 21st day of September to the late Reverend Charles N. Dillon and Josephine Parks Dillon in Brewsterdale, WV.

Hester was a faithful and devoted member of Dailey's Chapel United Methodist Church in Baptist Valley, VA where her attendance was perfect for many years. To many she was known as the “Boss” and enjoyed apple butter making and quilting.  She attended Bible School yearly and was passionate about singing in the choir for many years. She enjoyed these church activities alongside her best friend, Pearline Murray on the fifth pew every Sunday. Hester was a retired Baker from Deskins Super Market. She never met a stranger and found joy in cooking for many in her home. Many Friday nights were spent feeding the Tazewell Bulldog Football Team. She was an avid Tazewell Bulldog and Big Creek Owl Fan. She held season tickets to watch the Bulldogs play and when she was unable to attend she would listen by radio.

Hester had many passions in life such as quilting, baking, trying new recipes, fishing, fellowship at church and most of all her family. Her grandchildren always “fussed” over who she loved best! She was a past member of the Burkes Garden Sportsmen's Club where she and her husband spent many Saturdays fishing. She was a very proud American. Her husband served in World War II and together they enjoyed traveling to different locations to fellowship with Veterans and the Wives of 94th Medical Battalion Reunion. She was a loyal patriot who only purchased “Made in USA” products to support her country and values. The kind and loving care given her by Lill Yost, Gene Mosley, Diane Hale, Becky Boyd, Melonie VanDyke, Diane Artrip, Russell County Home Health, Doctors and Nurses at CHealth and Clinch Valley Medical Center went far in making her days easier and meant so much.

In addition to her parents, she was preceded in death by two brothers, Kenneth B. Dillon and Ray E. Dillon; one sister, Edna P. Goad; and a very special care giver, Bessy Boothe. She was loved by many and will be greatly missed by all.

She is survived by her loving husband of 71 years, Donald C. Rose; two daughters, Portia “Jean” Yates and Larry Tidwell of Enterprise, AL and Melissa D. Cordell of Tazewell, VA; one son, Donald C. Rose Jr. and wife, Almeta of North Tazewell, VA; six grandchildren, Rebecca Yates O'Neil and husband, Bill of Nocona, TX, Retired Lieutenant Colonel Eric Yates and wife, Mia of Japan, Leslie Rose McMullen and husband, Patrick of Tazewell, VA, Stephanie A.
