Johnnie Carrico Jr.

PRINCETON — Johnnie Carrico, Jr., 84, of Rustic Drive, Princeton, died Monday, September 16, 2013 in the Roanoke Memorial Hospital.

Born on May 18, 1929 in Crystal, W.Va., he was the son of the late John Carrico and Flora Easter Carrico.

Johnnie retired from National Electric Coil Company after 30 years of service. He was a lover of the outdoors, where he enjoyed to trout fishing and hunting. He attended the New Covenant Pentecostal Holiness Church on Highland Avenue in Princeton.

Johnnie was U.S. Air Force veteran having served in the Korean War and receiving the Korean Service Medal, Good Conduct Medal, United Nations Service Medal and the National Defense Medal.

In addition to his parents, he was preceded in death by the love of his life his wife of 48 years, Sakae Gloria Shibano Carrico whom he married on April 20, 1954 at the American Embassy in Tokyo, Japan. Two brothers, Eugene Lovern and Hartwell Carrico. Also, four sisters, Edith Landreth, Margaret Magdalena, Elsie Shumate and Alma JoAnn Hawkins.

He is survived by one brother, Billy Carrico and his wife, Jean of Bluefield, W.Va.; a Host of Nieces and Nephews.

Funeral Services to celebrate the life of Johnnie Carrico, Jr. will be held at New Covenant Pentecostal Holiness Church at 1:00 p.m. today (Friday), September 20, 2013 with Pastor Ronnie Reeves officiating. Military graveside rites will be provided by the Seymour Johnson AFB Honor Guard. Burial will follow in Roselawn Memorial Gardens in Princeton. Family and friends will serve as pallbearers.

The family will receive friends from 12:00 Noon until the service hour at the church.

While flowers are appreciated, the family requests that memorials may be made to Appalachian Teen Challenge, 1651 Unity Road, Athens, WV 24712.
