RICHLANDS, Va. —
Peggy Joyce Carner, age 81, of Richlands, Virginia, passed away Friday, February 22, 2013 in a Claypool Hill, Virginia nursing home.
She was born in Russell County and was the daughter of the late Otto A. and Mae Pearl Alley Crawford.
She was a lifelong resident of the Richlands area and was of the Presbyterian faith. In addition to her parents, she was preceded in death by her husband, Fred Walter Carner; two sisters, Dorothy Alice Shelton, Etta Jeanette Hovatter; and two brothers, Eursel K. Crawford and Robert Norman Crawford. She was the last surviving member of her immediate family.
Survivors are: One daughter: Patricia Sue Carner Smith of Richlands, Virginia; one son: Dennis W. Carner of Kissimmee, Florida; one grandson, Calvin Curtis Smith II; two great-grandchildren, Abigail Smith and Midajah Smith; and special caregivers, employees of Golden Age and Mayfair Assisted Living and Legacy Hospice also survive.
Funeral services for Peggy Carner will be conducted Monday, February 25, 2013 at 7:30 p.m. at the Hurst-Scott Funeral Chapel in Richlands, Virginia with the Rev. Thomas Stranger officiating. Entombment will follow at Greenhills Memory Gardens Mausoleum at Claypool Hill, Virginia on Tuesday, February 26, 2013 at 11:00 a.m. Pallbearers will be: Tommy Carner, P.T. Carner, Lonnie Edward, Daniel Young, Josh Young, and Roscoe Philbrick.
Friends may call after 6:00 p.m. Monday at the Hurst-Scott Funeral Home in Richlands, Virginia.
