Karen Gail Parcell

SCOTTSDALE, Ariz. —  Karen Gail Parcell, 58, of Scottsdale, Ariz., passed away November 3, 2011.

She was born July 24, 1952 in Bluefield, W.Va. to the late George Russell Parcell and Doris Bourne Parcell.

Karen graduated from Bluefield High School in 1971 where she was involved in the A Cappella Choir and cheerleading. She attended Wingate College in Wingate, N.C. where she studied music and art. She previously worked in the administrative department at Virginia Commonwealth University in Richmond, Va.

Karen was a member of Trinity Methodist Church, College Ave., Bluefield, W.Va. She had a love for family, friends and life. She was compassionate and giving of herself to others. Her heart was always in Bluefield, and she loved sharing fond memories of her home no matter where she journeyed. She was a talented singer and songwriter who studied piano under Donald Kensinger of Bluefield and an artist who loved to watercolor paint and sketch.

Karen was preceded in death by her parents and a sister, Sheri Lin Parcell Janutolo.

She is survived by her only child, Katherine Parcell Belcher Tierney (Matthew Peyton Tierney) of Lexington, Ky.; three sisters, Pam MacLeod of Flowery Branch, Ga., Gina Parcell Froy of Winston-Salem, N.C., and Joni Leigh Parcell of Spokane, Wash.; one grandson, Charles Matthew Scott Tierney II; two nephews, Kristopher Janutolo and Jordan Jones; and a niece, Amber Nicole Froy.

A private memorial service to celebrate Karen's life will be held Saturday, November 19, 2011.  Following, the family will be receiving friends and family in the Chapel of Westminster Presbyterian Church, 2005 Washington Street, Bluefield, W.Va. from 4 p.m. to 5 p.m.

In lieu of flowers, donations may be made to Bluefield Union Mission, 2203 Bluefield Avenue, Bluefield, WV  24701.
