Charlie Clifton (Bub) Odum, 48, of Welch, died early Thursday morning, May 16, 2013 at the Brian Center in Fincastle, Va. from injuries sustained in a tree cutting accident in November of 2011.
Born Jan. 3, 1965 in Welch. W.Va., he was the son of James Odum Sr. of Alabama and the late Jeanette O'Conner Chaffins. He was preceded in death by his mother and his grandparents, Charlie and Alma O'Conner.
He is survived by his wife, Glenda Odum of Welch; one son, Charlie Clifton (CJ) Odum Jr. and fiancee Jessica Whittaker of Welch; two sisters, Johnna (Brian) Burks of Ararat, Va., and Alma (Randy) McNeely of Hensley, W.Va.; one brother, James Odum Jr. of Marytown; stepfather, John Chaffins of Gilbert, W.Va., who raised him and he lovingly referred to as Ole Man; his father and mother-in-law, Grover and Margaret Smith of Hemphill; and several nieces and nephews.
He was employed at Gilbert Lumber Co. and Gilco International Lumber Co. from the age of 18 until his accident in 2011.
He was an avid hunter, fisherman and loved to ride his four-wheeler and was always there to lend a helping hand to his family and friends.
His body has been cremated as per his wishes. A Memorial Service will be held at The Ark of Safety in Roderfield, W.Va. on May 26, 2013 at 2:00 p.m. with the Rev. Danny Blackburn and the Rev. Austin Scarberry officiating.
Friends may visit with the family an hour before the service.
