Myrtle Amburn, 94, of Elkhorn Tower, Welch, formerly of Big Sandy, passed away Friday, May 10, 2013 in Loving Hands Adult Care in Bluefield.
Born November 25, 1918 in Ivanhoe, Va., she was the daughter of the late Charlie Amburn and Annie Burnett Amburn. She was a foster grandparent at Mount View High School for 20 years, and was a former 4-H leader of The Nightingales at Big Sandy. She attended the First United Methodist Church in Welch.
In addition to her parents, she was preceded in death by two sisters, Ethel Gillespie and Mae Melfa, and a brother, Ab Amburn.
Those left to cherish her memory are special caregivers, her niece, Shirley “Chubby” Hall of Big Sandy and great-niece, Becky Young of Princeton; four nieces, Margaret Brumfield and Carol Arrant both of Beckley, Margie Brooks of Morgantown and Petie Ratliff of Georgia; a nephew, Robert “Bob” Gillespie of Imlay City, Mich.; and several great-nieces and nephews.
Funeral service will be conducted Tuesday, May 14 at 1 p.m. in the Douglas Mortuary chapel in Welch with the Rev. Olen Butcher-Winfree officiating. Burial will follow in Iaeger Memorial Cemetery, Roderfield.
Friends may call at the funeral home Tuesday from 11 a.m. until 1 p.m.
Family will serve as pallbearers.
