David Craig Chewning, age 58, of Carswell Hollow, Kimball, W.Va., passed away Wednesday, March 20, 2013, at his residence. Born August 24, 1954, in Welch, W.Va., he was the son of Gloria DeHart Chewning of Bluefield, W.Va. and the late Eugene Chewning.
He was affiliated with the Protestant faith, was a graduate of Welch High School, class of 1972. He was formerly employed as a ship builder in the Shipyards in Newport News, Virginia, and was a resident of McDowell County most of his life.
He was preceded in death by his father, Eugene Chewning in 1998, his brother, Roland "Beau" Chewning in 1991, and his paternal and maternal grandparents.
Those left to cherish his memory are: His mother, Gloria DeHart Chewning of Bluefield, W.Va.; his sister, Ellen C. McKay and husband Gordon of Pittsburgh, Pa.; two nephews, Justin Michael McKay and wife Kendra of Reynoldsburg, Ohio, and Matthew McKay of Wexford, Pa.; two great-nephews and several cousins.
A private funeral service will be held Sunday, March 24, 2013, at the Woodlawn Memorial Park Mausoleum, Bluewell, W.Va. with the Rev. Joe Akers officiating. Burial will follow in the cemetery.
