Max Borden Brown, 74, of Bluefield, W.Va., died Thursday, March 21, 2013 at Bluefield Regional Medical Center.
Born May 11, 1938 in Bluefield, W.Va., he was the son of the late John M. Brown and Mary Ann Echoles Brown. Mr. Brown was a member of First Baptist Church in Bluefield and was a veteran of the U.S. Navy, having served during Vietnam and the Cuban Missile Crisis. He served on the USS Shangri-La and the USS Kitty Hawk. Mr. Brown retired as Assistant Street Superintendent from the City of Bluefield.
Survivors include his wife, Bonny D. Brown of the home; two sons, David D. Brown and wife Kim of Bluefield, W.Va. and Charles M. “Chuck” Brown and wife Eva of Bluewell, W.Va.; one sister, Mary Dean Dodson and husband Robert “Eddie” Dodson of Blacksburg, Va.; five grandchildren, Anna Moricle, Kristin Brown, Chelsea Brown, Cameron Brown and Jonathan Brown; three great-grandchildren, Caleb, Christian and Cayden Brinkley; one aunt, Sue Mackey; one niece, Kerry Dodson; one nephew, Danny Dodson and wife Teresa; three great-nieces; and numerous cousins.
The family will receive friends at Mercer Funeral Home on Saturday, March 23, 2013 from 6:00 until 8:00 p.m.
Funeral services will be conducted on Sunday, March 24, 2013 at 1:30 p.m. from the Mercer Funeral Home Chapel with the Rev. Ed Fisher and the Rev. Robert “Eddie” Dodson officiating. Burial will follow at Roselawn Memorial Gardens in Princeton where Jonathan Brown, Cameron Brown, Danny Dodson, John Hyder, Richard Kimberlin and Richard Mickel will serve as pallbearers.
Military graveside rites will be rendered by the Mercer County Veteran's Council and the West Virginia Honor Guard.
