Jess W. Williams

ROCK — Jess W. Williams, 88, of Reece Harmon Ridge, Rock, died Thursday, July 25, 2013 at Princeton Community Hospital. Born July 1, 1925 in Mercer County, he was the son of the late Archie M. Williams and Sarah E. Williams.

He was of the Baptist faith. He retired from Consolidated Coal Company at Itmann #1 in 1984 and was a member of the UMWA Local 9690. He loved the outdoors and enjoyed hunting and fishing. He was the last surviving member of his immediate family.

In addition to his parents, he was preceded in death by two stepchildren, Ronnie Johnson and Donnie Johnson; one step granddaughter, Sandra Johnson; nine sisters, Thelma McKinney, Lealure Thornton, Georgia Karnes, Edna Davis, Maggie Williams, Mithie Basham, Minnie Simpson, Ella Blankenship and Marusia Reed and three brothers, Russell Williams, Richard Williams and Millard Williams.

Survivors include his wife of 42 years, Shirley Stables Johnson Williams; nine stepchildren,  Danny Ray Johnson and wife Debbie of Rock, Roy Michael Johnson of Pulaski, Va., Margaret “Sissy” Crotty and husband Mike of Princeton, Gary Johnson and wife Wanda of Rock, Terry Lee Johnson of West Point, Va., David Johnson of Galax, Va., Tammy Hodges and husband Frank of Buckhannon, Pammy Williams of Palm Beach Gardens, Fla. and Kenneth Johnson and wife Kimberly of Princeton, a daughter-in-law, Margaret Johnson of Princeton; twenty-one step grandchildren, several step great-grandchildren and step great great-grandchildren and a special caregiver, Tonya Graham of Rock.

Funeral services will be conducted at 11:00 a.m. Monday, July 29, 2013 at Rowland H. Bailey Funeral Chapel of the Bailey-Kirk Funeral Home in Princeton with Pastor Larry Akers officiating. Interment will follow at Roselawn Memorial Gardens in Princeton.  

Friends may visit from 4-6 p.m. Sunday, July 28 at the Bailey-Kirk Funeral Home in Princeton.
