Howard Freeman Murphy, 87, of Princeton, W.Va., passed away July 21, 2013.
Born June 21, 1926 in Bramwell, W.Va., he was the son of the late Glen Murphy and the late Willie Winfrey Murphy.
Howard was a former employee for the United States Postal Service. He was a treasurer for the retired federal postal employee's Union. He served in the United States Army and was recipient of the Bronze Star in WWII. He was a member of the Kee Street United Methodist Church in Princeton, W.Va., where he served as a servant of God and the membership.
Howard was preceded in death by his wife, Evelyn Agee Murphy, one brother, James G. Murphy and one sister, Jo-Ann Whitman.
Howard is survived by two brothers, Mason L. Murphy and wife Malita of Athens, W.Va. and Michael M. Murphy and wife Aretta Mairs of Kenna, W.Va.; and one sister, Sarah E. Shaffer and husband Carl of Sarasota, Fla. He is also survived by several nieces and nephews.
A celebration of Freeman's life will be held on Saturday, July 27, 2013 at 3 p.m. Friends may call from 1:30 p.m. to 3:00 p.m. at Roselawn Funeral Home Chapel in Princeton, W.Va., with Pastor Ray Stonestreet officiating. Interment will follow at Roselawn Memorial Gardens. Men of the Kee Street United Methodist Church will serve as pallbearers.
Mercer County Veteran's Council will conduct Military Honors.
