Mary Magdaline Knight Handy

LINDSIDE — Mary Magdaline Knight Handy, age 87, of Lindside, W.Va., went to be with her Lord, July 19, 2013 at Carilion New River Valley Medical Center, Christiansburg, Va.

Born in Rock Camp, Monroe County, W.Va., February 20, 1926, she was the daughter of the late Alexander Richard and Laura Alice Songer Knight. Mary was a homemaker and attended the Pentecostal Church of Christ.

In addition to her parents, she was preceded in death by her husband of 57 years, Robert B. “Bud” Handy; two daughters, Judy Carol Byers and Peggy Jean Deskins; son-in-law, Larry Joseph Deskins; two grandsons, Jason Wayne Deskins and Guy Owens Knight; great-granddaughter, Tabatha Ann Shultz; and eight brothers, Tom, Gene, Charlie, Bill, James, Alfred, Paul and Claude Knight.

Survivors include four daughters, Shirley Canterbury of Lindside, W.Va., Susie Knight and husband Bob of Rock Camp, W.Va., Della Lilly and husband Junior of Lindside, Connie Amos and companion, Andy Grubb of Rich Creek, Va.; six sons, Robert Handy, Lewis Handy and companion Lynn Meadows and Steven Handy all of Rock Camp, W.Va., Thomas and Ralph Handy of Lindside, W.Va. and Chester Handy and wife Rose of Pearisburg, Va.; eighteen grandchildren and twenty-seven great-grandchildren.

Funeral Services will be 11:00 a.m., Tuesday, July 23, 2013 at the Broyles-Shrewsbury Funeral Home, Peterstown, W.Va. with Pastors Jim Pearson and Eddie Ratcliff officiating. Burial will follow in the Chambers Cemetery, Lindside, W.Va.  Friends may call from 6:00 p.m. to 8:00 p.m., Monday, July 22, 2013 at the funeral home.
