Martha Elizabeth Morgan Fleenor, 93, of Bluefield, West Virginia passed away on Saturday July 13, 2013.
She closed her eyes here on earth and opened them in the presence of the Lord.
She was born on September 21, 1919 in Fanrock in Wyoming County, West Virginia to Elbert K. Morgan and Armintie Jackson Morgan.
Martha grew up in Mohegan in McDowell County, West Virginia and attended school in McDowell County.
Martha's caring and generous nature was nurtured by a large loving family that taught the values of hard work, selflessness, devotion to family and dedication to the Lord. The family also recognized that a good sense of humor and a jolly attitude was important in facing troubling times. All of these traits she exhibited throughout her life.
Martha met Charles Fleenor, who worked for the N&W Railway. They married and started their life together in Bluefield, West Virginia. Martha was family orientated and devoted herself to it and loved every minute. She kept an immaculate and inviting home. She was known for her boundless energy and infectious laugh. Most notably, her delicious cooking and bread making that she shared with all that came to her house. She was always ready to help anyone at anytime, which served her well as she worked, at various times, as a Nurse's Aide at the Bluefield Sanitarium and St. Luke's Hospital in Bluefield, West Virginia.
Martha and Charles built their house off Cumberland Road in Bluefield, West Virginia. She felt that the site was the most idyllic since a small stone church was only a few hundred feet away. She became a member of the church, known at that time as Bailey Memorial Baptist Church. The church is now known as Cumberland Heights Baptist Church. Martha was proud to be the oldest living member of the church and loved her church family. She served the Lord with gladness and most importantly taught her children about the Bible and the values that her family instilled in her. Martha was and will be remembered as a good daughter, caring sister, loving aunt, special cousin, and trusted friend. Most importantly, she was a devoted wife, precious and beloved Mother. Martha was preceded in death by her parents, four sisters, Orpha Morgan Bailey, Mabel Morgan Ellison, Vera Morgan Scott, Virginia Louise Morgan and three brothers, Cecil Morgan, Clarence Morgan, and Elbert (Ray) Morgan. She was the last surviving member of the family. Also, her husband, Charles Edgar Fleenor with whom she celebrated 59 1/2 years of marriage before his death on June 28, 1999.
Those left to cherish her memory and to carry on her wonderful sweet spirit are her three children. Two daughters: Brenda Fleenor Neal and husband Bob of Bluefield, West Virginia, and Tammy D. Fleenor of Bluefield, West Virginia. One son, Charles Elbert Fleenor and wife Susan of High Point, North Carolina. Grandchildren, Christina Fleenor Goss of Evans, Colorado and Caryn Fleenor Gonzalez of Allentown, Pennsylvania, one great grandson and one great great grandson, and a special niece, who was like a sister, Ruby Ellison Peery of Princeton, West Virginia and special cousin Bill Jackson of Bluefield, West Virginia. Additionally, a host of nieces, great nieces, great nephews and her neighbors who she considered as friends, also, new friends Thelma Maloyed and Jim Thurston; and very special friends, the staff of Heritage Hall, Tazewell, Virginia for the excellent care that they provided in her last days.
