William Warren Baker, 81, of 101 E. Montvale St., Bluefield, Va., died Saturday, April 29, 2006 at Westwood Medical Center. Arrangements are incomplete at Mercer Funeral Home and Crematory of Bluefield.

Annie Laura Harmon, 90, of 312 Parkview Dr., Bluefield, Va., died Friday, April 28, 2006 at Bluefield Regional Medical Center. Arrangements are incomplete at Cravens-Shires Funeral Home in Bluewell.

Victoria Justus Jessie, 90, of Paw Paw, Ky., died Thursday, April 27, 2006 at Wellmont Bristol Regional Medical Center in Bristol, Tenn. following a brief illness. Funeral services will be conducted at 1 p.m. Monday at Stopover Freewill Baptist Church in Stopover, Ky. Burial will follow in Jessie Cemetery on Right Fork of Paw Paw on Lick Branch Hollow near Paw Paw. Miss Elizabeth Isabelle Kailing, 91, of Glenwood Park Retirement Village in Princeton, formerly of Welch, died Saturday, April 29, 2006, at St. Luke’s Hospital in Princeton. Funeral arrangements are incomplete at Seaver Funeral Home in Princeton. Memorial contributions may be made to a favorite charity of Sacred Heart Catholic Church Projects in Princeton.

Charles S. Lambert, 60, of Wolfe, died Saturday, April 29, 2006. Funeral arrangements are incomplete at Rodriguez Pocahontas Funeral Home, Pocahontas, Va.

Audrey Alfreda Kelly Conlee

CAPE CORAL, Fla. — Audrey Alfreda Kelly Conlee, of Cape Coral, passed away Wednesday, April 26, 2006 at Hope Hospice House North in Cape Coral.

She was preceded in death by her beloved mother, Dorothy Kelly of Coalwood, her stepfather, the late Rev. Carl S. Kelly of Coalwood, and her father, Doc T. Graham of Beckley.

Freda graduated from Gary High School and was the office manager for Crowell Realty in Washington, D.C. until her retirement.

She is survived by her children, William S. Prince of Gulf Shores, Ala., Dorothy L. Young of Cape Coral and Edward L. Prince and spouse Linda Jo of Cape Coral; also her loving grandchildren, Shannon, Kristi, Kelly, Staci, Andrea, Paul and Dameon; and great grandchildren, Melissa, Brandon and Sarah.

Her remains will be interred at the Roderfield Cemetery in McDowell County at 1 p.m. on May 10, 2006.

She will be so sadly missed.

Dimple C. Ellis

VANSANT, Va. — Dimple C. Ellis, 88, of Vansant, passed away Saturday, April 29, 2006 at Buchanan General Hospital, Grundy, Va., following a long illness.

Born in McDowell County, she was a daughter of the late Edward and Nancy Cline Collins. She was a resident of Buchanan County, Va. for many years. She was an employee for the State of West Virginia and was of the Baptist faith.

Mrs. Ellis was preceded in death by her husband, George Ross Ellis - Sept. 4, 1947.

She is survived by one son, Rick and wife Kathy Ellis, Box 801, Vansant; also survived by three grandchildren, Roy Lee Ellis, Michael Dean Ellis and Gina McClain; seven great grandchildren and one great great grandchild.

She was preceded in death by one sister, Stella Willard; one daughter, Patsy Ruth Ellis; one son, Donald Ross Ellis; four brothers, Roy, John L., Edward C. and Doc Collins; and two granddaughters, Karen Michelle and Felecia Kay Ellis.

Funeral services for Dimple C. Ellis will be conducted Monday, May 1, 2006 at 1 p.m. at the Grundy Funeral Home with Evg. Michael Trent and the Rev. Jody Breeding officiating with burial to follow in Clinch Valley Memorial Cemetery, Richlands, Va.

Friends may call at the Grundy Funeral Home Chapel today at 5 p.m. with services at 7 p.m.

Active pallbearers will be Junior Sexton, Roy Ellis, Mike Ellis, Dave Shortt, Rodney Owens and Harold Vandyke. Honorary pallbearers will be the staff of Heritage Hall and Residents, Dr. J. Patel, Dr. H. Patel, Dr. D. Patel, and Men of Ratliff Chapel Baptist Church.

Ralph W. McReynolds

BLUEFIELD, Va. — Ralph W. McReynolds, 89, of 207 Valleydale St., Bluefield, Va., died Friday, April 28, 2006 at Tazewell Community Hospital.

He was born in Raven, Va. and was a son of the late William Luther McReynolds and Mousie Smith McReynolds. Mr. McReynolds was a member of the First United Methodist Church in Bluefield, Va. and was a retired conductor for Norfolk and Southern Railroad.

In addition to his parents, he was preceded in death by his wife, Helen Meade McReynolds; a son, Larry McReynolds; and by a brother, Claude McReynolds.

Survivors include daughter, Wilma McReynolds Shay of Matamoras, Pa.; son, William M. McReynolds and wife Patty of Bland, Va.; brother, Billy McReynolds of Cedar Bluff, Va.; sisters, Betty Adams of Crystal River, Fla. and Mildred Wilson of Raven; grandchildren, Christopher McReynolds, Wendy McReynolds, Matthew McReynolds and Andrew McReynolds; great grandchildren, Zebulon, Cameron, Jett, Stephen and Bailey McReynolds.

Funeral services will be held at 11 a.m. Monday, May 1, 2006 at the Dudley Memorial Chapel in Bluefield, Va. with the Rev. Raymond Amos officiating. Entombment will follow in the Grandview Mausoleum on the Bluefield-Tazewell Road in Bluefield, Va.

Pallbearers will be Christopher McReynolds, Matthew McReynolds, Andrew McReynolds, Gary McReynolds and Jack Bourne. Honorary pallbearer will be Zebulon McReynolds.

Charles A. Shrewsbury

ROCK — Charles A. Shrewsbury, 74, of Bicknal Flats Road, Rock, died Friday, April 28, 2006 at St. Luke’s Hospital in Bluefield.

Born Aug. 20, 1931 at Egeria, he was the son of the late Howard Shrewsbury Sr. and Zida Basham Shrewsbury. Mr. Shrewsbury was a veteran of the U.S. Marine Corps and served in the Korean Conflict. He was a retired coal miner from Consol with 42 years of service as a mine electrician and was a member of the U.M.W.A. He attended Wesley Chapel at Wright Mountain and was a Sunday School teacher. He was an avid hunter and he enjoyed working in his garden.

In addition to his parents, he was preceded in death by one brother, Howard Shrewsbury Jr.

Survivors include his wife of 52 years, Betty Bailey Fowler Shrewsbury; four children, Allen Fowler and his wife Oma of Springton, Steven Shrewsbury of Bicknal Flats, Jay Shrewsbury of Matoaka, and Christina Snider and her husband Rick of St. Peters, Mo.; three brothers, Ronnie Shrewsbury and his wife Carolyn of Bicknal Flats, Homer Shrewsbury of Lashmeet and Berlin Shrewsbury and his wife Hirohma of Phoenix, Ariz.; two sisters, Dona Harmon and her husband Sonny of Odd, and Ramona Meadows and her husband Claude of Mt. Airy, N.C.; eleven grandchildren and eight great-grandchildren.

A graveside service will be conducted at 11 a.m. Monday, May 1, 2006 at Roselawn Memorial Gardens in Princeton with the Rev. Billy Hill officiating.

Serving as pallbearers will be Matthew Shrewsbury, James Shrewsbury, Milam Fowler, Joshua Fowler, Scott Harmon and Randall Shrewsbury.

Friends may call from 10 until 10:45 a.m. Monday at the Bailey-Kirk Funeral Home in Princeton. Friends attending the graveside service are asked to meet at the funeral home by 10:45 a.m.

James Edward Stamper

BLUEFIELD — James Edward Stamper, 87, of No. 7 Greenbrier Dr., Holly Hill Estates, Bluefield, died Thursday, April 27, 2006 at his home after a long battle with cancer.

Born July 5, 1918 in Atkins, Va., he was a son of the late Charles Edward and Phebia Jane Anders Stamper. He was a retired self employed contractor. Prior to being self employed, he worked for Glen El Martin Air Force Base. Mr. Stamper was a veteran of the U.S. Navy having served his country in WW II.

In addition to his parents he was preceded in death by two brothers, Walter and Frank Stamper; four sisters, Louise and Verna Rose Stamper, Mattie Stamper Short and Bessie Pearcy; and a loving grandson and granddaughter, Richard Odell III and Vicky Glass.

Survivors include his wife, Grethuel Stamper of the home; daughters, Janie Odell and husband Richard of Bluefield, Va., Wanda Grim of Bluefield, Barbara Neal and Allen Fuller of Bluefield, Janet Nelson and husband Robert “Butch” of Bluefield; ten grandchildren and seventeen great-grandchildren; and a host of nieces, nephews, and friends.

Funeral services will be conducted Monday, May 1, 2006 at 2 p.m. from the Mercer Funeral Home Chapel with Minister Frank Watkins officiating. Burial will follow from the Roselawn Memorial Gardens Cemetery located in Princeton where military graveside rites will be performed by the Mercer County Veterans Council. Serving as pallbearers will be Mr. Stamper's grandsons.

Beatrice Mae Dailey Thompson

PEARISBURG, Va. — Beatrice Mae Dailey Thompson, 78, of Pearisburg, passed away Friday evening, April 28, 2006 at her home.

Mrs. Thompson was born on Oct. 19, 1927 in Caretta and was a daughter of the late Oscar Dailey Sr. and Willa Crawford Dailey. Mrs. Thompson was a member of the Kentland Baptist Church in Kentland, Md. and the AARP.

She is survived by her husband, James Edward Thompson Sr. of Pearisburg; one son, James Edward Thompson Jr. of Bowie, Md.; one daughter, Carolyn Reynolds of Bowie; one brother, Oscar Dailey of Jewell Ridge, Va.; one half brother, Harold Dean Pruitt of Roanoke, Va.; one sister, Billy Jean Pruitt Christian of Jewel Ridge; and one grandson, Ricky Reynolds III.

Graveside funeral services will be conducted at 2 p.m. Tuesday, May 2, 2006 at Birchlawn Burial Park in Pearisburg with the Rev. Shahn Wilburn officiating.
