Mr. Weldon Burton Sr.
PRINCETON — Mr. Weldon Burton Sr., 70, of 852 Mercer Street, Princeton, died Tuesday, Jan. 24, 2006 at the Princeton Community Hospital.
Born June 9, 1935 at Matoaka, he was the son of the late Harrison and Bertha Meaver Burton. He was educated in the Mercer County Schools. Mr. Burton was a former chef and had worked with the food industry for many years.
In addition to his parents, he was preceded in death by five brothers, Leonard Wright, Ernest Burton, Roland Burton, Harold Burton and Franklin Burton along with two sisters, Kathleen Mayor and Doris Horne.
Survivors: His son and daughter in law, Weldon and Youngmi Burton Jr. stationed in Seoul, Korea; five grandchildren; a brother, Billie Sparks of Kegley; a host of nieces and nephews.
Mr. Burton’s request was honored by his family, his body was cremated and their will be no visitation or funeral service.
The Burton family is being served by the Memorial Funeral Directory & Cremation Center on the Athens Road in Princeton.
Johnny A. Chizmar
BECKLEY — Johnny A. Chizmar, 83, of Beckley, passed away Wednesday, Feb. 1, 2006.
Born April 10, 1922, he was the son of the late John Chizmar and the late Bertha Horvath Chizmar.
Johnny was a Golden Glove Boxer in the 1940s and played baseball.
He was a member and served as an Elder Deacon of the Open Bible Baptist Church.
In addition to his parents, two sisters, Ethel Nassif and Elsie Chizmar; and two brothers, Tommy Chizmar and Louie Chizmar preceded Johnny in death.
Those left to cherish his memory include his loving wife, Shirley Meade Chizmar; a son, Johnny Chizmar Jr. of Beckley; a daughter, Cathy Griffith and husband, Terrence of Beckley; a granddaughter, Danielle O’Donnell of Beckley; two grandsons, Kevin O’Donnell and Preston Griffith both of Beckley; two brothers, Ernest Chizmar and wife, Dorothy of Bluefield and Danny Chizmar and wife, Nora of Panama City, Fla.; and two sisters, Elizabeth Cole and husband, Dennis of Bluefield, Va. and Barbara Jones and husband, Joel of Spring Lake, N.C.
Services will be held at 1 p.m. Monday, Feb. 6, 2006 at the Open Bible Baptist Church, Hedrick Street, Beckley with Pastors Rodney Allen, Ken Pritt and Gene England officiating. Burial will follow in Blue Ridge Memorial Gardens, Beckley.
Family and friends will be serving as pallbearers.

PRINCETON — Helen T. Echols, 80, of Princeton, died Friday, Feb. 3, 2006 at GlenWood Park Retirement Village in Princeton.
Born July 25, 1925 in Matoaka, she was the daughter of the late Barney Tilley and Lena Lilly Tilley.
Mrs. Echols was a homemaker and was of the Baptist faith. She was a 1943 graduate of Matoaka High School and was retired from Sun Bank in Orlando, Fla.
In addition to her parents, she was preceded in death by her husband, Robert W. Echols.
Survivors include one son, Ronald W. Echols and his wife Chae Yong Echols of Hendersonville, N.C.; one grandson, Roy W. Echols and his wife Michelle of Tampa, Fla.; one great-granddaughter, Mia Echols; one brother, Barney Tilley Jr. of Chattanooga, Tenn.; two sisters, Nell Rice of Garettesville, Md. and Anne Lilly of Princeton; and a special sister-in-law, Sue Mackey of Princeton, who was her caregiver the past five years.
Funeral services will be conducted at 11 a.m. today, Saturday, Feb. 4, 2006 and the Rowland H. Bailey Funeral Chapel in Princeton with the Rev. Nancy Cale officiating. Interment will follow at Roselawn Memorial Gardens in Princeton.

BLUEFIELD — Billy B. “P.O.” Grose Sr., 67, of Route 1 Box 388 (Sandlick), Bluefield, passed away on Thursday, Feb. 2, 2006 at his residence.
Mr. Grose was born on Feb. 23, 1938 in Crumpler to Thelma Morris Grose of Route 4, Bluefield and the late Rev. Henry Bertram Grose.
Mr. Grose had been a resident of Sandlick for 40 years and was a self-employed contractor. He was a member of the Army National Guard for 21 years and of the Protestant faith.
Survivors in addition to his mother are his wife, Judy Black Grose of Route 1, Bluefield; sons, Billy B. “Chip” Grose II and wife Leanna of Route 1, Bluefield, Jason Grose and wife Dena of Route 2, Bluefield; daughter, Suzette Nunley and husband Ron of Route 1, Bluefield; sisters, Peggy Williams and husband William of Bluefield, Anita Sargent and husband John of Coweta, Okla.; seven grandchildren and four great-grandchildren.

TAZEWELL, Va. — Edith Irene Dickens Lewis, 64, of Tazewell, died Thursday, Feb. 2, 2006 in a Tazewell hospital.
She was born at Horsepen, Va., and was a daughter of the late Harley and Bittie Stilwell Dickens.
She had made her home in the Tazewell area all her life. She was a homemaker, loving mother and loving child of God. She was a wonderful cook and enjoyed doing crafts. She attended Tazewell First Assembly of God and was a member of Horsepen Church of Christ.
In addition to her parents, she was preceded in death by sisters, Beatrice Cook and Olivine Buchanan; brothers, Truman Dickens and Clinton Dickens.
Survivors include: Two daughters, Tammy Lewis and Tracie Lewis of the home; brother, Coy Dickens and wife Jennie of Abbs Valley, Va.; several special nieces, great nieces, nephews and great nephews ; her beloved pet, Jax; special friend that she considered as one of her daughters, Honey Sue Short-Bird.
Funeral services will be conducted at 2 p.m. today, Feb. 4, 2006 at Hurst-Scott Funeral Home of Tazewell with the Rev. Doug Johnson officiating. Interment will follow at Maplewood Cemetery, Tazewell. Pallbearers will be Tony Thompson, Herman Cook, Rick Cook, Greg Buchanan, Bobby Stilwell and Tom Bailey.

Dr. Otho Karl “Kayo” Mann Jr.
LEBANON, Tenn. — Dr. Otho Karl “Kayo” Mann Jr., 54, of Lebanon, Tenn., formerly of Princeton and Columbia, S.C., died Wednesday, Feb. 1, 2006 at University Medical Center, Lebanon, Tenn., following a sudden illness.
Born Sept. 7, 1951 at Hinton, he was the son of the late Otho Karl Mann Sr. and the late Jane Isabel Lobban Mann. In addition to his parents, he was preceded in death by a sister: Marsha Martin.
Dr. Mann was professor of marketing in the College of Business at Tennessee Technological University, Cookeville, Tenn. He was a 1969 graduate of Princeton High School, received a bachelor of science in chemical engineering from West Virginia University, a master of business administration from the University of Tennessee, Knoxville and a Ph.D. in marketing and business administration from Virginia Polytechnic Institute. Dr. Mann was president of the Collegiate Division of the American Marketing Association, vice-chair of the Electronic Commerce Group of the Institute for Supply Management, and was appointed to their Certification Committee for five years. He was a member of the Highland Park Baptist Church, Columbia, Tenn.
Survivors include his wife: Carolyn Mann of Lebanon, Tenn.; a daughter: Pam Trakas of Gallatin, Tenn.; a sister: Jane McGuire and her husband Gary of Franklin, Tenn.; a nephew: Keith Martin and family of Princeton; three nieces: Pepper Coy and family of Princeton, Jennica McGuire of Franklin and Tayler McGuire of Franklin.
Funeral services will be conducted at 11 a.m. Monday, Feb. 6, 2006 at the Lobban Funeral Home Chapel, Alderson with the Rev. Billyreed Wickline officiating. WELCH — Mrs. Zulia M. Sellers, 95, a resident of the Golden Harvest in Welch, formerly of Havaco, departed this life Saturday, Jan. 28, 2006 at Welch Community Hospital.
Born July 9, 1910 in Union Mills, N.C., she was the daughter of the late James Brown Sr. and Armenda Hemphill Brown. Mrs. Sellers resided in Havaco and Welch most of her life. She was a homemaker and in earlier years was baptized and a member of the Mt. Zion Church of Christ in Havaco.
In addition to her parents, she was preceded in death by her husband, George Sellers; one brother, James Jr.; and three sisters, Ellen, Helen and Pauline. Mrs. Sellers was the last surviving member of her original family.
She is survived by her sister-in-law, Sallie Ann Hamilton of Havaco; two nephews, James W. Hamilton of Queens, N.Y. and Darrell Hamilton of Shirley, N.Y.; two nieces, the Reverend Patricia Kelly of Chicago, Ill. and Dortricia Grant of the Bronx, N.Y.; and a host of great-nephews, great-nieces and other relatives and friends.
Visitation will be held from 5-7 p.m., Sunday, Feb. 5, 2006 at the Gregory-Page Funeral Home in Welch. Interment at 1 p.m., Monday, Feb. 6, 2006 at Restlawn Memorial Gardens, Bluewell.

Joseph Heath Semones
WYTHEVILLE, Va. — Joseph Heath Semones, 93, of Wytheville, passed away Wednesday, Feb. 01, 2006.
He was born Sept. 11, 1912 in Carroll County, Va., son of the late Noah A. and Minnie Hall Semones. He was very active in the West End United Methodist Church, which he helped build. He was the church historian, Sunday school teacher, superintendent of the Sunday school, lay leader and church treasurer for 15 years. During World War II he was an Air Raid Warden. Too old to serve in the Army, this was his way of serving his country during the war. He worked at Wytheville Motor Company until he was appointed the Wytheville Town Treasurer in 1962. He retired from that office September 1976.
In addition to his parents, he was preceded in death by his brothers, James, Isaac, Russell and Melvin; two infant brothers; three infant sisters; his stepmother, Rosa Semones; and half-brother, Ernest Semones.
He is survived by his loving wife of 70 years, Belle N. Semones; four daughters and sons-in-law, Elaine and Ellis Sult of Bluefield, Lorraine and Dickey Spraker of Roanoke, Va., Pat and Bobby Cale of Wytheville, Nancy and Frank Tucker of Gurnee, Ill.; 11 grandchildren; 14 great-grandchildren; sister, Mime Marshall of Kinston, N.C.; half sister, Daisy and Phil Dunford of Wytheville; half brother, William and Loveline Semones of Roanoke; sister-in-law, Helen Semones of Wytheville; numerous nieces and nephews.
Funeral services will be held at 11 a.m. today, Feb. 4, 2006 at the Barnett Funeral Chapel with the Rev. Steve Johnson and the Rev. B. Ann Blair officiating. Interment will follow in West End Cemetery.
The family received friends Friday from 6 to 8 p.m. at the funeral home.

ASHLAND — Lonnie Boyd White Jr., 79, of HC 76 Box 665A, Ashland, passed away on Wednesday, Feb., 1, 2006 at his residence.
Mr. White was born on April 2, 1926 in Ashland, to the late Lonnie Boyd White Sr. and Ferol Honaker White.
Mr. White had been a resident of Ashland his entire life and had worked for Ashland Coal Company for 38 years. He was retired from Stevens Clinic as a maintenance worker. He was a member of the UMWA, veteran of World War II and was a member of the Prosperity United Methodist Church.
In addition to his parents he was preceded in death by a daughter, Linda White and four brothers, James Larry White, Richard White, Houston “Buddy” White and Homer Jack White.
Survivors include wife, Bettie Maybelle Owens White of Ashland; sons, Kenneth Boyd White of Fort Myers, Fla., Lonnie “Rocky” White of Ronceverte; brothers, Wallace Gene White of Montcalm, Bert White of Hampton, N.H.; sisters of the heart, Norma Jean Johnson of Rock, Irene Osborne of Ashland; grandchildren, Bryan White, Lillie White, Linda White and Raycheal Osborne.
Mr. White loved his Lord, family, children and friends.
Funeral services will be conducted Monday, Feb. 6, 2006 at 11 a.m. at the Cravens-Shires Funeral Home in Bluewell, with the Rev. Douglas Hyndrich and the Rev. Earl Hill officiating. Burial will follow in Roselawn Memorial Gardens on the Courthouse Road in Princeton, where Randy White, Johnny East, Johnny Hazelwood, Keith Dargo, Wayne Wyatt and Cody Johnson will serve as pallbearers and the Mercer County Veterans Council will conduct military graveside rites.
