SHERRILLS FORD, N.C. — Betty Perdue Bailey, 78, of Spinnaker Bay Dr., Sherrills Ford, passed away on Thursday, Jan. 19, 2006.
Born Oct. 4, 1927, in Bluewell, she was the daughter of the late Lewis Hampton and Leona Blanche Richardson Perdue. Mrs. Bailey was a retired registered nurse for the Methodist Home at Asbury Care Center of Charlotte, N.C. She was an avid NASCAR Racing and Dale Earnhardt fan. Mrs. Bailey also enjoyed lake activities, country music and volunteering at Lake Norman Regional Medical Center.
She is survived by her daughters, Shelia Dillon and husband, Bob of Mooresville, N.C., Brenda Bailey of Charlotte, and Rose Bailey and Jay Lesemann of Huntersville, N.C.; six grandchildren; and very close friends at Spinnaker Bay and the Methodist Home.
A memorial service will be held at 11 a.m., Monday, Jan. 23, 2006, at the Cavin-Cook Funeral Home Chapel, Mooresville, with the Rev. Don Horton officiating.
The family will receive friends from 10-11 a.m., prior to the service at the funeral home.

BELFAST, Va. — Mr. Cecil Joseph Ball, 85, of Belfast, passed away Thursday, Jan. 19, 2006 in a Richlands, Va. hospital following a lengthy illness.
Born Aug. 14, 1920 in Russell County, Va. he was the son of the late Thomas Robert and Minnie Peck Ball. He was of the Holiness faith, a minister for 53 years and a retired farmer.
In addition to his parents he was preceded in death by two brothers, Clarence Ball and Thomas Robert (June) Ball Jr.; and one son-in-law, Carl Sargent.
He is survived by his wife of 60 years, Pauline Reynolds Ball; one daughter, Ileen Ball Sargent of Claypool Hill, Va.; one son, Danny Ball and wife Bonnie of Cedar Bluff, Va.; one sister, Euva Ball Robins of Baptist Valley, Va.; two granddaughters, Sheila Sargent Ingram and Susan Ball Jackson; four great grandchildren, Bobby Jackson III, Tanah Jackson, Brock Jackson and Aaron Curtis Ingram; several nieces and nephews and many friends also survive.
Funeral services will be conducted at 2 p.m. Sunday, Jan. 22, 2006 at Singleton Funeral Service Chapel in Cedar Bluff with the Rev. Clarence Brown and the Rev. Ellis Whited officiating. Burial will follow in the Greenhills Memory Gardens at Claypool Hill.
Pallbearers will be Jeff Ingram, Bobby Jackson II, Bobby Curtis Jackson III, Lonnie Ball, Junior Ball, Mike Lester, Robert Lester and Ernie Horton. Honorary pallbearers will be Mike Justus, Larry Dye, Billy Harris, Roger Gross, Larry Reynolds, Bill Monk, Ray Shelton and Bruce Richardson.

Beulah Dale Cline Dunn
PRINCETON — Beulah Dale Cline Dunn, 101, of the Glenwood Park Retirement Village in Princeton, formerly of 915 Oakvale Rd., died Friday, Jan. 20, 2006 at her residence.
Born March 8, 1904 in Pineville she was the daughter of the late John Weaver and Annie Laura Stewart Cline. She was a former telegraph operator with the Virginian Railroad and a former member of the First Church of God Church on Mahood Avenue in Princeton. She had been a resident of Princeton since 1958, moving here from Harper.
In addition to her parents, her husband, D.R. “Dude” Dunn; one daughter, Betty Jo Craig; one grandson, Michael D. Craig; and one sister, Vesta Violet Cline White preceded her in death.
Survivors include: Three grandsons, Willard H. Kidd and wife Annette of Abingdon, Va., Donald E. Craig Jr. of Painesville, Ohio and David Craig and wife Samantha of Princeton; five great-grandchildren, Jeremiah Kidd, Briana Kidd, Clarrissa Dannick, J.D.D. Craig, and Melissa Craig; and four great-great grandchildren.
Graveside services will be conducted at 11 a.m., today, Jan. 21, 2006 at Roselawn Memorial Gardens in Princeton with the Rev. Larry Dyer officiating.
There will be no visitation.
Those attending the service are asked to meet at Seaver Funeral Home in Princeton by 10:30 a.m. today.

Chippie White Ferguson
BECKLEY — Chippie White Ferguson, 89, of Old Eccles Road, Beckley, died Thursday, Jan. 19, 2006, at Raleigh General Hospital, following a lengthy illness.
Born Feb. 7, 1916, at Elgood, she was one of 14 children of the late Samuel Patton White and Ollie Steele White. She graduated in 1935 from Glen Lyn (Va.) High School, and was a member of Elgood Methodist Church. She was employed for 12 years as the Resident Director of Wilson Hall at Concord College, retiring in 1985.
She was preceded in death by her husband, Donzie Lloyd Ferguson; a great-grandson, Nicholas Paul McClure; five brothers, Aubrey, Allen, Fred, Blake and Lake; and six sisters, Maude, Lottie, Elsie, Christie, Rhoda and Louise.
She is survived by her three children, Stanley and wife, Leigh of Harwood, Md., Steve and wife, Mandy of Queenstown, Md. and Rebecca Zutaut and husband, Paul of Beckley, with whom she had made her home for the past 20 years. She is also survived by her twin sister, Polly Wheeler of Powhatan, Va.; brother, Donzie White of Elgood; nephew, Arthur Shumate of Weirton; six grandchildren, Timothy Ferguson and wife, Megan of Pittsburgh, Pa., Jeffrey Ferguson and wife, Jobi of Harwood, Md., Cynthia Ferguson Jimenez and husband, Mike of Harwood, Sherri Zutaut McClure and husband, Richard of Chesterfield, Va., Stephanie Zutaut Shaffer and husband, Keith of Oceanside, Calif., and Kevin Ferguson and wife, Jen of Edgewater, Md.; four step grandchildren; 16 great-grandchildren; and many nieces and nephews. Also left to cherish their memories of Chippie are her special caregivers, Janet McNeal, Regina Mims, Carol Owens, and Janie Plumley.
Services will be conducted at 2 p.m. Sunday at Elgood Church, with Jim Stanley officiating. Burial will follow in the church cemetery.
Friends may call from 6 to 8 p.m. today at Calfee Funeral Home in Beckley, and one hour prior to the service Sunday at the church.

COVINGTON, Va. — Mr. Monty Ray Hazelwood, 58, of 447 Winding Way, died Wednesday, Jan. 18, 2006 at his residence. He was the husband of Norma Jean Dunn Hazelwood.
Mr. Hazelwood was born April 26, 1947 in Rock Camp, Monroe County, the son of the late John I. Hazelwood and Virginia Mae Blankenship Hazelwood. He served his country as a member of the United States Army where he was stationed in Germany. A member of this community since 1965, Mr. Hazelwood was employed as an electrician by Mead Westvaco with 40 years of service. He was a member of Temple Baptist Church and a member of the Fellowship Sunday School Class. Mr. Hazelwood served his church as a deacon, an usher, on the counting committee and various other committees. He was a member of the International Brotherhood of Electrical Workers, Local 464. Mr. Hazelwood enjoyed hunting, trout fishing, gardening and was an avid member of the Temple Baptist Church softball team. He loved spending time with his family most especially his grandson, Andy.
In addition to his parents, Mr. Hazelwood was preceded in death by one brother, Thomas E. “Corky” Hazelwood.
In addition to his wife of 37 years, Norma Hazelwood, Mr. Hazelwood is survived by one son, Kevin Ray Hazelwood and wife, Lisa; one daughter, Kathy J. Hazelwood Clark and husband, Terry, all of Covington; one grandson, John Andrew Elliott Clark; four brothers, Johnny I. Hazelwood and wife, Patty of Narrows, Va., Ronnie L. Hazelwood and wife, Connie, Joe Hazelwood and wife, Linda, Rick E. Hazelwood and wife, Lisa, all of Lindside; one sister, Bonnie Hazelwood Mann and husband, Gary of Weddington, N.C.; one aunt, Clara Jewel Ferguson; one uncle, Donnie Hazelwood, both of Rock Camp; and a number of nieces, nephews, and cousins.
A funeral service will be conducted at 2 p.m. Sunday, Jan. 22, 2006, at Temple Baptist Church with the Rev. William Hartsfield officiating. Interment will follow in Swope Cemetery, Rock Camp.
The family will receive friends today from 4 p.m. until 5:30 p.m. and from 7 p.m. until 8 p.m. at Loving Funeral Home, Covington.

BASTIAN, Va. — Annette Lindamood Kidd, 73, of Bastian passed away Friday, Jan. 20, 2006.
She was born March 5, 1932 in Bluefield, daughter of the late William Maxwell and Florene Dillow Lindamood.
In addition to her parents, she was preceded in death by her husband, Johnny Kidd and a sister, Barbara Lindamood.
She is survived by one son and daughter-in-law, John and Christine Kidd of Bastian; two daughters, Dianne Burress and Drema Davis both of Bland, Va.; one brother, Sammy Lindamood of Bland; three sisters, Helen Carter and Maretta Looney both of Bastian and Margaret Blankenship of Rocky Gap, Va.; six grandchildren, Darren Kidd, Derrick Kidd, Anthony Kidd, Leigh Ann Pike, Lyndsey Hudson and Katlyn Nichole Kidd; 10 great-grandchildren, Taylor Pike, Hailey Pike, Shannon Burnette, Shawn Burnette, Cathleen Dale, Sierra Dale, Jacob Kidd, Dillon Kidd, Chloe Kidd and Dawson Kidd; special friend, Debbie Stowers Looney of Bastian; several nieces and nephews also survive.
Funeral services will be held at 2 p.m. Sunday, Jan. 22, 2006 at the Highland Bland Funeral Chapel with Paul Looney officiating. Interment will follow in Neal Cemetery, Grapefield Road, Bastian.

ROCK — Billie Sue Ratliff Taylor, 77, of Route 2, Box 282, Rock, passed away Thursday, Jan. 19, 2006 at the Roanoke Memorial Hospital, Roanoke, Va.
Mrs. Taylor was born March 11, 1927 in Ashland to the late Stanley and Ruth White Ratliff. She had been a resident of Rock for the past 40 years.
In addition to her parents she was also preceded in death by her husband, Brack Ervin Taylor Sr. and one son, Brack Ervin “Sonny” Taylor Jr.; two sisters, Ruth Ernest and Jeanette Sampson; one brother, Ralph Ratliff and a half-brother, James Swatts.
Survivors Include: Son: Glenn W. Ratliff and wife Rita of Glenwood; daughter: Carol Sue Moore and husband Jack of Bluefield; sisters: Joan Bailey of Rock, Betty Sutherland of Rock and Anita Ratliff of Montcalm; grandchildren: Heather Stock and Krista Ratliff; great-grandchildren: Emily Stock and Shawn Thorn.
Funeral services will be conducted at 1 p.m. Monday, Jan. 23, 2006 at the Cravens-Shires Funeral Home, Bluewell, with Dan Webb and Homer Moore officiating. Burial will follow at Woodlawn Memorial Park, Bluewell.

Rolfe — Mary “Katherine” Watkins, 84, of Rolfe went to be with the Lord early Friday morning, Jan. 20, 2006 at the Bluefield Regional Medical Center after a long illness.
Born March 10, 1921 in Gilliam, she was the daughter of the late Claude Gillenwater and Gladys Sisk Gillenwater. She was a member of the Rolfe Pentecostal Holiness Church, Rolfe, was a homemaker, a resident of Rolfe most of her life, and was the last surviving member of her immediate family.
Other than her parents, she was preceded in death by her husband of 51 years, Ferd Watkins Sr. on Jan. 15, 1998; one daughter, Patricia Ritter; two sisters, Nollie Vanoy and Sissy Bodnar; one brother, George Gillenwater.
Survivors include: Two daughters, Merita “Rita” Dawson and husband Bruce of Rolfe and Barbara Ann Ensminger and husband Morris of Bluefield; three sons, Ferd Dempsey Watkins Jr. and wife Carol of Athens, Don E. Watkins and wife Debbie of Bluff City, Tenn. and Jackie Mitchem and wife Amy of Springfield, Va.; 13 grandchildren, 15 great grandchildren and two great great grandchildren.
Funeral services will be conducted at 11:30 a.m. Monday, Jan. 23 at the Widener Funeral Home Chapel, Northfork, with the Rev. Ronald Reeves officiating. Burial will follow at the Woodlawn Memorial Park, Bluewell.
