CLAYPOOL HILL, Va. —
Gertrude Crockett Wynn, age 93, of Mayfair House Assisted Living in Claypool Hill, Va., formerly of Bishop, Va., died Tuesday, May 7, 2013 at Mayfair House following a lengthy illness. Born July 6, 1919 at Bishop, Va., she was a daughter of the late James H. “Jim” Crockett and Tura Belle Kirk Crockett and spent most of her life in Bishop and Tazewell, Va. areas.
She was a member of Alexander United Methodist Church at Bishop. Mrs. Wynn graduated from Tazewell High School. She worked for many years and retired from Crockett's Store in Bishop, Va.
In addition to her parents, she was preceded in death by her husband, Steward Shannon Wynn; two sisters, Opal Crockett Phillips and Almeda Crockett Jones; three brothers, Thomas Cecil Crockett, Lowell W. (Bruger) Crockett, and James Hilton Crockett; sister-in-law, Regina Crockett; brother-in-law, William Jack (Red) Phillips.
She is survived by sister-in-law, Alice Crockett of Port Orange, Fla.; two nieces and eight nephews including a special nephew, Bill Phillips of Cedar Bluff who looked after her care; special friends and compassionate caregivers at Mayfair House and Total Home Care Hospice of Richlands, Va. who made her final years more comfortable.
Funeral services will be conducted at 2 p.m. Friday, May 10, 2013 at Peery & St. Clair Funeral Home Chapel in Tazewell, Va. with Delmar Somoskey officiating. Family and friends will serve as pallbearers.
The family will receive friends at the funeral home one hour prior to the service on Friday.
