TAZEWELL, Va. —
Erlien Harman Brown, 97, passed away Sunday, May 5, 2013, at Tazewell Community Hospital, Tazewell, Va. She had formerly lived in West Graham for fifty years, but for the past five years, she was a resident at Heritage Hall in Tazewell, Va. She was born December 17, 1915 in Tazewell, Va. to the late C.E. and Dovie Harman.
Mrs. Brown had worked as a substitute teacher and a census worker. After her late husband, J. Brit Brown retired, together they ran the Country Ham House business in West Graham for several years, curing, baking, slicing, and even shipping hams both here and abroad. She was the last surviving member of her family.
In addition to her parents and her husband, she was preceded in death by a son, J. Brit Brown Jr.
She is survived by her daughter, Betty Brown Peery; daughter-in-law, Patsy Douthat Brown; grandchildren, W. Doug Peery, Linda Lady, Ann Prevento, Brian Brown, Garrick Brown and Matt Brown; great-grandchildren, Jesse Peery, Ben Peery and Lauren Lady; three great-great-grandchildren.
A service to celebrate Mrs. Brown’s life will be held Saturday, May 11, 2013 at 2:00 p.m. at Dudley Memorial Chapel in Bluefield, Va. with the Rev. Gary Lyons officiating. Burial will follow in the Maple Hill Cemetery, Bluefield, Va. Her grandsons, W. Doug Peery, Brian Brown, Garrick Brown, Matt Brown, Jessee Peery and Ben Peery and Byron Pruett will serve as pallbearers.
Friends may visit with the family Saturday, May 11, 2013 at the Dudley Memorial Chapel from 1:00 p.m. until the hour of service.
