Joseph Larry Zingale

BLUEFIELD, Va. — Born August 24, 1922 in Keystone, W.Va., he was the son of the late Joseph and Grace Rivoli Zingale.  Larry was a member of Sacred Heart Catholic Church and past member of the Bluefield Elks Lodge, Bluefield Moose Lodge and of Sons of Italy and a member of V.F.W. Bluefield, Va., and American Legion.  

Larry received a B.S. from Concord College, Athens, W.Va., his Masters Degree from West Virginia University, Morgantown, W.Va., and his PhD from Florida State University, Tallahassee, Fla.. following his education he was the Assistant Band Director in Florida State University, Assistant Band Director of University Band at WVU, Band Director of Concord University, and Band Director of Morehead State University. Larry was also Chairman of Division of Fine Arts Central Florida Community College and Director of Jazz Program and Professor Miami-Dade College.

Surviving Mr. Zingale are his wife of 46 years Joan Brown Zingale and six children Joseph Zingale, Jr. and wife Mary of Columbia, S.C., Scott Barry and Wife Rebecca of Bluefield, Va., Jim Zingale of Cape Cod, Fla., Cynthia Mabardy and husband Bo of Bluefield, Va., Julia Zingale of Fort Lauderdale, Fla., and John Zingale and wife Rachel of Pembrook Pines, Fla.; six grandchildren: Lauren Zingale, Ryan Barry, Amanda Grace Zingale, Brooke Mabardy, Alexandra Nicole Zingale and Anthony Joseph Zingale.

Mass of Christian Burial will be held on Saturday May 4, 2013 at 11:00 a.m. from the Sacred Heart Catholic Church with Fr. Paul Wharton as Celebrant. Family will serve as pallbearers.  Honorary pallbearers will be Bob Rounion and Joe Gollehon.  The family will receive friends on Friday May 3, 2013 at Mercer Funeral Home from 7-9 p.m..  

In lieu of flowers the family has requested that memorial donations be made to Total Home Care and Hospice at 106 Westwood Commons, Bluefield, VA  24605, or Sacred Heart Catholic Church, 1003 Wyoming Street, Bluefield, WV 24701.
