Robert “Bob” Cochran

NORTH TAZEWELL, Va. — Robert “Bob” Cochran, age 85, of North Tazewell, Va., went to be with the Lord while a patient at Carilion Tazewell Community Hospital, Wednesday, April 24, 2013 after a lengthy illness. He was born February 21, 1928 at Cliffield, Va. and was a son of the late Leonard and Gladys Taylor Cochran.

Bob had worked for many years as a carpenter for the former N & W Railroad and had retired from the U.S. Department of Treasury as a Special Policeman. He was an avid baseball fan and during the season he could be found cheering on his beloved New York Yankees. Mr. Cochran was a United States Navy Veteran of World War II, and was a member of the Cliffield Christian Church (Disciples of Christ). Bob will be greatly missed by all who knew and loved him.

In addition to his parents, he was preceded in death by three brothers, Frazier Cochran, Ray Cochran and Ralph Cochran.

Those left to cherish his memory include his loving wife of sixty-two and one half years, Edna Laney Cochran; three brothers, Glen S. Cochran and wife, Shirley of Port Charlotte, Fla., Jerry Cochran of Cliffield, Va., and Danny Cochran and wife, Margaret of Claypool Hill, Va.; two sisters-in-law, Sarah Cochran of Cliffield, Va. and Mary Margaret Cochran of Dante, Va.; several nieces and nephews, grand-nieces and nephews, other family members and friends also survive.

Funeral Services for Robert “Bob” Cochran will be conducted at 2:00 p.m. Sunday, April 28, 2013 at the Hurst-Scott Funeral Home Chapel in Tazewell, Va. with the Rev. Chris White and the Rev. Mike Harrison officiating. Burial will follow at the Greenhills Memory Gardens in Claypool Hill, Va. Pallbearers will be Kevin Delp, Ken Earls, Ellis Cole, Joe Baldwin, Tom Hamilton, and Ken Crabtree.

Military Graveside Rites will be conducted by members of the Barns-Beavers VFW Post #7136 in Tazewell, Va.

The family will receive friends at the funeral home from 6-9 p.m. Saturday, April 27, 2013.
