Samuel Harrison Nunn

BLUEFIELD — Samuel Harrison Nunn, 87, of 1126 Old Bramwell Road, Bluefield, died Sunday, January 20, 2013 at Bluefield Regional Medical Center. Born January 7, 1926 in Bluefield, he was a son of the late Lee and Clara Nunn.

Mr. Nunn was retired from the N&W railway system with thirty years of dedicated service. He was a World War II veteran of the U.S. Navy where his bravery and dedication to his country earned him the Purple Heart plus several other distinguished service ribbons. He was a member of the First Church of the Nazarene of Bluefield.

In addition to his parents, he was preceded in death by one brother, Charlie Nunn; three sisters, Jose Daily, Helen Fletcher and Pauline Puckett; and one daughter-in-law, Charlotte Nunn.

Survivors include his wife of 61 years, Clara Ballard Nunn; four sons, Donnie Nunn and wife Margaret of Bluefield, Va., Ronnie Nunn and wife Kitty of Bluefield, Va., Tommy Nunn of Bluefield, W.Va., and Michael Nunn and wife Cindy of Bluefield, W.Va.; grandchildren, Kim Reece and husband Mike, Shawn Nunn and wife Dee, Dawn Farley and husband Chris, and Corey Nunn and wife Brittany; great-grandchildren, Mackenzie Reece, Chase Reece and Caitlyn Farley.

Funeral services for Mr. Nunn will be conducted Wednesday, January 23, 2013 at 2:00 p.m., from Mercer Funeral Home Chapel with Pastor Gary Jakes officiating. Interment will follow at Roselawn Memorial Gardens Cemetery in Princeton. Family and friends will serve as pallbearers.

Friends may call at the funeral home from 6 p.m. until 8 p.m. Tuesday, January 22, 2013.
