WARDELL, Va. — Lonnie Joseph Clifton, 38 years of age, of Wardell, Va., went to be with the Lord, December 31, 2012 at his residence surrounded by his family, after a courageous battle with cancer. Born February 10, 1974 in Tazewell, Va., he was the son of Patsy Christine Keene Clifton of Pounding Mill, Va. and the late Lonnie Darell Clifton.

He was a 1992 graduate of Richlands High School, had attended Southwest Virginia Community College and was employed by Consol Energy Buchanan Mine #1. Lonnie loved hunting and fishing and attended Lebanon Pentecostal Tabernacle. He was a loving husband, father, son and brother.

Survivors include in wife of 16 years, Sandra Delane Justice Clifton; daughters, Anna Delane Clifton and Stephanie Elizabeth Clifton of the home; son, Lonnie Jacob Clifton of the home; sisters, Dreama Williams of Honaker, Va., Susie Clifton of Pounding Mill, Va.; brothers, Darell Clifton and his wife Cindy of the Clifton Fork section of Virginia, Perry Clifton and his wife Nina of Hunterville, N.C.

He is also survived by his maternal grandmother, Florida Keen of Pounding Mill, Va., several nieces and one nephew.

Funeral services for Lonnie Joseph Clifton will be conducted at the Shortridge-Ramey Funeral Home Chapel of Keen Mountain, Va., Friday, January 4, 2013 at 11:00 a.m. with the Reverends Kevin Blankenship and Travis Matney officiating. Burial will follow in the Clifton Cemetery on Clifton Fork, Keen Mountain, Va.                           

Active pallbearers will be his family and friends.

The family will receive friends at the Shortridge-Ramey Funeral Home Chapel of Keen Mountain, Va. Wednesday, January 2, 2013 after 6:00 p.m. Evening services will be held Wednesday and Thursday evenings at 7:00 p.m.
