BLUEFIELD, Va. —
James (Jimmy) Joseph Groten, age 24, of Bluefield, VA, passed away, April 14, 2014.
Jimmy was born in Syracuse, NY on August 22, 1989. He graduated from Graham High School in 2007 and continued his education at Virginia Tech and The University of North Carolina at Charlotte.
Jimmy was employed at Bass Pro Shops. He was a sports enthusiast who knew everything there was to know about any sport with a ball. He enjoyed playing basketball, soccer, golf, camping and fishing, and loved NASCAR. Jimmy was a loving and kind young man, with a caring and sparkling spirit. He was loved and will be missed by many.
He was preceded in death by his grandfather Sheldon Groten.
Jimmy is survived by his loving parents David and Ruth Groten, his big brother and his best friend Andrew, his big sister and confidant Amy, his baby sister, princess Sarah, and by his dog, Henry. He is also survived by his grandparents, James and Joan Hogan, and his grandmother Clara Groten. He is also survived by many aunts, uncles and cousins.
The funeral service will be held at 11:00 am on Monday, April 21, 2014 at St Therese Catholic Church, located at 217 Brawley School Road, Mooresville, NC. Graveside services will follow at 2 PM at Evergreen Cemetery located at 1462 Armstrong Ford Rd., Belmont, NC. Calling hours will be held from 7:00 pm to 9:00 pm on Sunday April 20, 2014 with a Prayer Service being held at 8:00 PM at Cavin-Cook Funeral Home at 495 East Plaza Drive, Mooresville, NC.
