Deacon Edward J. Wade

WILCOE — Deacon Edward J. Wade age 84, who was a life long resident of Wilcoe, WV, peacefully departed this life on Sunday, April 6, 2014 at Welch Community Hospital in Welch, surrounded by his family.

He was born December 1, 1929 in Wilcoe and the son of the late Russell and Dorothy (Hairston) Wade. He was a graduate of Gary District High School and a Veteran of the U.S. Army. At an early age, he joined First Missionary Baptist Church in Wilcoe, where he formerly served as both Chairman of the Deacon Board and Sunday School Superintendent. Retiring after 38 years of employment with US Steel Coalmines in Gary, he was a member of UMWA Local No. 7635. For over 20 years, he was an elected official of the Gary City Council and a member of Euclid Lodge No. 18, in Gary. His most favorite pastimes were spent watching Westerns on television, visiting with neighbors and friends and serving treats to the neighborhood children.  

In addition to his parents, he was preceded in death by his wife, Imelda A. Harmon Wade and five of his siblings: James, William Sr., and Philmore Wade Sr., (twins) Virginia Curtis and Virgie Wilson.

A very loving father will be greatly missed by his children: Rhonda L. Wade (Bobby Brown) of Washington, DC; Edward L. “Eddie” Wade of the home; Linda “Michelle” and husband, Lewis D. Cochran of Fayetteville, NC; Kevin A. Wade, J.D. (Kathy Cottle) of Wilcoe; two sisters, Helen Thomas of Washington, DC and Elizabeth Nance of Chicago, IL; four grandchildren: Stephanie (Donald) McLeod, Jermaine Wade, Dwayne (Valerie) Cochran and Brianna Wade; five great-grandchildren; two devoted nephews, Robert D. Wade and Russell “Puncho” Wade and a host of additional nephews and nieces; many other special relatives and friends.  

Homegoing Service will be held at 12:00 noon, on Saturday, April 12, 2014 at First Missionary Baptist Church in Wilcoe, with the Reverends: David Cooper, Eulogist, Ronald Dyer, J.T. Horton, Jerome Powell and Bishop Arnie Joyce officiating. Interment will follow at Rest lawn Memorial Gardens, on Rt. 20, Littlesburg Road in Bluewell, WV. His nephews and nieces will serve as pall bearers and flower bearers.

Visitation will begin at 10:00 a.m., until the time of Service on Saturday, at the Church.
