BLUEFIELD, W.Va. —
Born June 15, 1954 in Bluefield, she was the daughter of the late Eldie C. “Buddy” Caldwell and Hazel Bowman Caldwell. Ruthie was a graduate of Beaver High School, Concord University, and earned her Masters Degree at Marshall University. She was a beloved teacher at Bluefield Intermediate School since it opened, also taught at Wade Elementary School as well as substitute in Mercer County and North Carolina Schools. She was a member of First Presbyterian Church of Bluefield, was a member of Alpha Delta Kappa Honorary Teachers Sorority where she served as the Altruistic Chairperson for the past six years, and she was instrumental in preparation for the Teaching State Convention held at Pipestem State Park where she led the State President, and was a West Virginia University fan.
Ruth is survived by her son Eric G. Foster of Bluefield; a brother Rod Caldwell and his wife Vicki of Hendersonville, North Carolina; her grandchildren Hannah and Emily Jo Foster that affectionately refer to her as “DOGO”, a niece Allison Caldwell of Charlotte, North Carolina, and long time friend Mike Gregory.
Funeral services will be conducted Saturday June 22, 2013 at 11:00 a.m. at First Presbyterian Church with Dr. W.D. Hasty officiating. Interment will follow at Roselawn Memorial Gardens Cemetery in Princeton, where friends of the family will serve as pallbearers.
A time of sharing and visitation will be held Friday June 21, 2013 from 6:00-8:00 p.m. at Mercer Funeral Home of Bluefield.
