LASHMEET —  Born January 14, 1931 at Egeria he was the son of the late Allen Marshall Wood and Pansie Harvey Wood.

He was a veteran of the U.S. Army serving in Vietnam. He was a member of the Primitive Baptist Church where he was an Elder. He was a retired coal miner, last working at Itmann #2 Mines and was a member of the UMWA.

In addition to his parents he was preceded in death by his wife of 34 years Imogene Wood; one brother, Vernis Wood and three sisters, Violet Monk, Vannie Shrewsbury and Verlie Walker.

Survivors include nine children, Linda Harding and husband Bill of Lester, Leona Gillispie and husband Richard of Statesville, N.C., Katherine Harless of Maiden, N.C., Micky Wood and wife Renee of Lester, Wesley Wood and wife Christie of Lester, Billy Wood and wife Carolyn of Trinity, N.C., Johnny Wood and wife Jodenna of Troutman, N.C., Teresa Moore and husband Dwayne of Princeton and Paul Wood of Lashmeet; 16 grandchildren, several great-grandchildren and one sister, Velma Jones of Norfolk, Va.

Funeral services will be conducted at 1:00 p.m. Friday, June 21, 2013 at the Rowland H. Bailey Funeral Chapel of the Bailey-Kirk Funeral Home in Princeton with Elder Joe Blevins, Elder Keith Mills and Elder Richard Gillispie officiating. Interment will follow at the McComas-Crotty Cemetery in Lashmeet. Grandsons will serve as pallbearers.

Friends may visit at the funeral home from 11:30 a.m. until the service hour on Friday, June 21.
