RICHLANDS, Va. — Edward Clay Barber, age 58, of Richlands, Virginia passed away on Thursday, February 13, 2014 at his home in Hidden Valley, Richlands, Virginia surrounded by his family. He was our cherished and beloved father, husband, brother, uncle and friend. He was born in Richwood, West Virginia and was the son of the late J.C. and Garnet Sneed Barber.

Edward was a graduate of Richlands High School and a Bachelor of Arts from ETSU in Johnson City, Tennessee. He was a salesman in the Mining Industry where he previously worked at Joy Manufacturing, Jewell Smokeless, Ingersoll Rand, Electroquip and most recently, American Mine Research. He was an avid golfer being a member of the Tazewell County Country Club and he was a longtime resident of the area.

He is survived by: His wife, Peggy Barber. One daughter: Jill Barber Blankenship and husband, Derick of Raleigh, North Carolina. One son: Jason Clay Barber of Richlands, Virginia. One sister: Nancy Meadows of Nashville, Tennessee. One brother: JC Barber and wife, Sharon of Beckley, West Virginia. One nephew: Thomas Meadows and wife, Dottie of Nashville, Tennessee. Three nieces: Julie Nagy and husband, Dan of Raleigh, North Carolina, Jann O'Hara and husband, Chris of Morgantown, West Virginia, Jennifer Manchau and husband, Doug of Morgantown, West Virginia. Great nieces and nephews: Kortney Brus of Wilmington, North Carolina, Sarah Meadows of Nashville, Tennessee, Sean Meadows of Nashville, Tennessee, Jenna and Justin Nagy of Raleigh, North Carolina, Julianna and Jessica Manchau of Morgantown, West Virginia. His two dogs that he loved: Jager and Boomer.

Funeral services to remember the life of Edward Clay Barber will be 2:00 pm on Sunday, February 16, 2014 at the Hurst-Scott Funeral Chapel in Richlands, Virginia with the Rev. Larry David Ratliff and the Rev. Betzy Elifrits Warren officiating. Interment will follow at Greenhills Memory Gardens, Claypool Hill, Virginia. Pallbearers will be: Dailey “Buck” Bucklen, Dale Conn, Gerald Ramsey, Kenneth “Butch” Reed, Robert “Bob” Saxton and Larry Worrell.

The Barber family will receive friends from 5:00 pm - 8:00 pm on Saturday evening at Hurst-Scott Funeral Home, 1401 Second St., Richlands, VA.
