RICHLANDS, Va. —
He was born in Derby, Virginia and was the son of the late Garrett and Gladys Mullins Shepherd. Bob was a graduate of the Appalachia High School Class of 1951 in Appalachia, Virginia. He served his country in the U.S. Navy during the Korean War. He went on to attend the West Virginia University in 1960 and received a B.S. in Accounting. Bob owned and managed, Robert G. Shepherd, CPA in Richlands, Virginia and became the accountant for many local businesses in the area. He was a former member of the Richlands Lions Club, and was a former board member of the Tazewell County Country Club, where he loved to play golf. He was a member of the First United Methodist Church of Richlands, Virginia and will truly be missed by all who knew and loved him. He was the last surviving member of his immediate family.
In addition to his parents he was preceded in death by his infant son, David Robert Shepherd, and two brothers, Jack and Jerry Shepherd.
Those who remain to carry on his spirit are: his loving wife, Lois Jean Bolling Shepherd of Richlands, Va.; sisters-in-law: Judy Z. Shepherd of Sellersburg, Ind., Judy C. Shepherd of Paducah, Ky. Several nieces, nephews and a host of friends also survive him.
Funeral services for Robert (Bob) G. Shepherd will be conducted at 2:00 p.m. on Friday, June 28, 2013 at the Hurst-Scott Funeral Chapel in Richlands, Virginia with the Rev. Larry Ramey and the Rev. Betzy Elifrits Warren officiating. Entombment will follow at the Greenhills Memory Gardens Mausoleum in Claypool Hill, Virginia. Pallbearers will be, Sam Barnett, Mike Bandy, York Lindsey, Larry Worrell, Bill Fiess, Johnny Buskill, Andy Altizer and Scotty Lawson. Honorary Pallbearers will be Gene Nolley, James Belcher, Tom Garges, Gene Hurst, Jr., and Jody Fuller. Shepherd family will receive friends from 6:00 p.m. to 9:00 p.m. on Thursday evening at the Hurst-Scott Funeral Home in Richlands, Virginia.
