Bobby Wade Southern, 77, of the Pisgah Road, Princeton, died Saturday afternoon, June 22, 2013 at his home.
Born June 6, 1936, at Elgood, he was the son of the late Henry A. Southern and Dorthia White Southern.
Bobby was educated in Mercer County. Bobby was a retired School bus driver for the Mercer County Board of Education, having driven for many years without an accident. Bobby was well known in the area for his masonry work and block laying for homes and buildings. The real love of his life was farming, he truly enjoyed the outdoors. He took get pride in raising large pumpkins and going to livestock markets on a regular basis.
For many years, Bobby was a member of the Mercer County Farm Bureau and had served on the Board of Directors for the Livestock Market. While his health permitted, he was an active member of the Mt. Jackson Baptist Church in Athens and a former Deacon and Trustee of the church.
It would be safe to say, Bobby never met a stranger and loved to talk to anyone who would listen.
In addition to his parents, he was preceded in death by five siblings: Hazel Mills, Shelia Southern, Helen Davis, JoAnn Doyle and Henry Southern Jr.
Survivors include his devoted and loving wife of 56 years, Elva Frances Howerton Southern; his daughter, Sandra Kay Via; two grandchildren, Amanda Via and Charles Wade Via and wife Brittany all of Princeton; and one great-grandchild, soon to arrive, who's name will be Charlie. Siblings: Walter and Frances Southern of Athens, Clayton and Judy Southern of Oakvale, Ralph Southern of Athens, Sue and Eugene Hall of Lerona; a host of nieces and nephews.
A time of celebration will be held 1:00 p.m. Tuesday, June 25, 2013 at Mt. Jackson Baptist Church in Athens with Pastor Larry White and Charlie Rice officiating. Burial will follow in the Athens Cemetery in Athens.
Friends may visit with the family on Tuesday from 11:30 a.m. until the service hour at the church.

Serving as pallbearers will be Tommy Peyton, Kevin Peyton, Wally Southern, Gary Woods, Marty Bailey and Vince Ford.
