Nelson Arlon Mills

SPANISHBURG — Nelson Arlon Mills, 61, of Spanishburg was called home to be with his Heavenly Father on Wednesday, June 12, 2013 at Charleston Area Medical Center. Born August 23, 1951 at Bluefield he was the son of the late Jack Mills and Verleen White Mills Akers.

Arlon, known as Big “A” in his younger years was a graduate of Matoaka High School Class of 1969.  He was a member of Rich Creek Baptist Church in Spanishburg.  He was a third generation coal miner and retired from his distinguished mining career as a foreman at Maben Energy in 1994.  He was a talented carpenter, always crafting beautiful one-of-a-kind cabinetry and furniture for his friends and family. One of his favorite outdoor activities was bass fishing and he was an active member of Mountain State Bass Anglers. A quiet, strong and honorable man, he touched the lives of many friends and family. He will be missed deeply.  

In addition to his parents he was preceded in death by one brother, Victor Douglas Mills.

He is survived by his devoted wife and best friend of nearly 43 years, Beverly Ann Shrewsbury Mills; his loving daughter, Tracy Michelle Mills Samosky and husband Bobby of Spanishburg and his loyal son Eric Wade Mills and wife Heather of Rock; he leaves behind six precious grandchildren, Brooke, Brett, Courtney, Caitlin, Robby and Ryan.

Funeral services will be conducted at 3:00 p.m. today, June 15, 2013 at the Rowland H. Bailey Funeral Chapel of the Bailey-Kirk Funeral Home in Princeton with the Rev. Ralph Calfee officiating. Interment will follow at Roselawn Memorial Gardens in Princeton.

Serving as pallbearers will be Billy Bridges, Mark Horton, Jeremy Marshall, Jeff Mills, Bobby Samosky and Bruce Shrewsbury. Honorary pallbearers will be Danny Goins, Brian Shrewsbury, Josh Shrewsbury and Mark Shrewsbury.

Family will receive friends today from 2:00 p.m. until the service hour at the Bailey-Kirk Funeral Home in Princeton.
