BOTETOURT, Va. — Barbara Newman Sparks, 79, of Botetourt, died December 4, 2013 at Berkshire Nursing Home. Born September 8, 1934 a daughter of the late, Martin and Carrie Fisher. Barbara was a member of Zion Hill Baptist Church (Fincastle) and Laural Fork Baptist Church (Rocky Gap). In addition to her parents she is preceded in death by a brother, William Fisher.

Surviving are her husband, James “Jim” Sparks; three daughters, Sherry Newman, Ann Newman (John Howard) and Jackie Bennett (Terry); sister, Edrodean Roberson; sister-in-law, Dot Kidd (Harold Andrews); two grandchildren, T.J. Bennett and Tandra Bennett; numerous nieces and nephews; numerous special friends.

In lieu of flowers the family requests donations be made to: Humane Society, 1340 Baldwin Ave NE, Roanoke, VA 24012.  

A celebration of Barbara's life will be conducted at 2:00 p.m., Saturday, December 7, 2013 at Zion Hill Baptist Church with Pastor Lee Mackentosh and Pastor Robert Walker officiating. Burial to follow at Zion Hill Cemetery. The family will receive friends from 2 to 4 and 6 to 8 p.m., Friday, December 6, 2013 at Rader Funeral Home-Daleville.
