CEDAR BLUFF, Va. —
Franklin Garland Smith, age 98, of Cedar Bluff, Virginia, passed away Monday, April 15, 2013 at Mayfair House, Claypool Hill, Virginia.
He was born in Whitewood, Virginia and was the son of the late Caleb Charles and Dora Ellen Patrick Smith. He was a retired cutting mechanic for W.M. Ritter Lumber Company in Whitewood, Virginia and Daisy, Kentucky. He also worked at Royal Machine Works in Grundy, Virginia. Mr. Smith was a 69-year honorary member of the Richlands Masonic Lodge #318 AF and AM. He was a member of the Claypool Hill Church of Christ at Claypool Hill, Virginia and was a lifelong resident of the area.
In addition to his parents, he was preceded in death by his first wife, Alberta Anderson Smith; one son, Charles F. Smith; two sisters, Edith Robinson and Mary Smith; and two brothers, Leo Smith and Mason Smith.
He is survived by: Three daughters: Barbara H. Smith Dubrico and husband, James of Michigan, Katherine Paige Smith Clevinger of Breaks, Virginia, Sally Childress of Grundy, Virginia; two sons: Enoch Paul Smith and wife, Dolly Sue of Richlands, Virginia, David Smith and wife, Catherine of Owings, Maryland; his wife, Willie D. Smith; one sister, Louise Smith of Tipp City, Ohio; one brother, James Smith of Canfield, Ohio. Also surviving are twenty-one grandchildren and several great-grandchildren, along with several family and friends.
Funeral services for Franklin Garland Smith will be conducted Thursday, April 18, 2013 at 11:00 a.m. at Hurst-Scott Funeral Chapel in Richlands, Virginia with Evangelist Bob Smith officiating. Interment will follow at Forest Hills Memory Gardens Cemetery, 19415 Lee Hwy., Abingdon, Virginia. Pallbearers will be: Joey Clevinger, Brian Clevinger, Richard Smith, A. J. Smith, Charles F. Smith Jr., Eddie Paton, Andrew Paton and Bradley Smith.
Friends may call from 6:00-9:00 p.m. on Wednesday evening with a Masonic service at 7:00 p.m. at Hurst-Scott Funeral Home, 1401 Second Street, Richlands, Virginia.
