Kelly Ivan Buskell III

BRISTOL, Tenn. — Kelly Ivan Buskell III, age 53, of Bristol, Tenn., passed away on April 15, 2013 at his home. He was born in Richlands, Va. and had been a resident of Bristol for 16 years.

He was a graduate of  Tazewell High School and ETSU. He was a graduate of the West Virginia Police Academy and was a former police officer with the Bluefield, W.Va. Police Department. During his service there he received the commendation for meritorious service. Kelly was the owner/operator of ServPro of Abingdon, Bristol, and Marion.

Mr. Buskell was the vice chair of the Bristol, Tenn. School Board and was running for reelection. Mr. Buskell was a member of Tennessee Avenue Baptist Church. Prior to his service on the school board, he coached various sports and volunteered in the city schools. Kelly was a dedicated family man and had a passion for the children of our community.

Survivors include: Wife, Cathy Buckland Buskell; daughters, Megan Buskell and Lakyn Buskell; father, Kelly Ivan Buskell Jr. and wife Jan; mother, Patricia Lasker; stepfather, Dr. Bruce Lasker; siblings, Kellena Meadows, Tara Chea Lockwood, Wendy Spry and husband Gary, Chris Lasker; father-in-law and mother-in-law, Rev. Clinton and Shirley Goad; eight nephews; niece, Destiny Shephard and husband Jacob.

Funeral services will be held on Thursday, April 18, 2013 at 1 p.m. in the Weaver Funeral Home Chapel with the Rev. Clinton Goad and Pastor Ben Spry officiating. Interment will follow at Forest Hills Memory Gardens. Pallbearers include: Nephews: Ben Spry, Spc. Patrick Mercer, Eric Spry, Mark Meadows, Adam Meadows, Jared Spry, Tanner Lockwood, and Conner Lockwood. Honorary pallbearers include: Richard Cook, Tony Turner, John Gillespie, Ted Jones, Ted Hatfield, Don Jones, Peter Romano, Brad Hutton, Aaron Hopkins and Preston Rosenboro.

The family will receive friends on Thursday from 11-12:45 p.m. prior to the service.
