BLUEFIELD, Va. — Michael Scott Baker, age 49, formerly of Lebanon, Va., passed away July 6, 2013.

He was a resident and pastor in Bluefield, Va. He was the senior pastor of Bluefield Community Church for the past 16 years. Mike grew up in Lebanon and is a graduate of Lebanon High School and ETSU. He then received a Master's of Divinity Degree from Southeastern Baptist Seminary, Wake Forest, N.C. Mike served as the associate pastor at Arrowood Baptist Church in Chesnee, S.C. and the senior pastor at Riverside Baptist Church in Chilhowie, Va. He then had the opportunity to plant the Bluefield Community Church in Bluefield, Va. Mike became a Christian at the age of 10 under the ministry of W.L. Odum, pastor of Spring City Baptist Church. Mike's passion was building lasting relationships and bringing people to a closer walk with God. He loved his church families at Bluefield Community, Riverside Baptist and Arrowood in Chesnee, S.C.  

Mike has three beautiful children, Cayla age 19, Gray age 17 and Toby age 6. He married his high school sweetheart, whom he loved and adored, Beth Altizer Baker and were united for 26 years. Mike was the loving devoted son of Doug and Nancy Baker of Abingdon, Va., formerly of Lebanon, Va. He is survived by his brother, Chuck Baker and wife Melinda, and daughter Rachel, all of Kingsport, Tenn.; devoted and special aunt and uncle, Brenda (Sis) and Howard Long, Blacksburg, Va.; father-in-law Mike Altizer, Lebanon, Va.; sisters-in-law and husbands, Sarah and Robby Adams and Julie and Mike Moore, Lebanon, Va. and other loving extended family members and friends.    

Mike was preceded in death by his maternal grandparents Paul and Nina Dingus and his paternal grandparents Walter and Violet Baker, all of Clintwood, Va. and mother-in-law Jeannie Altizer, of Lebanon, Va.

The funeral service will be conducted at 11 a.m. Thursday, July 11, 2013 in the Community Heights Baptist Church, 210 Community Heights, Cedar Bluff, VA 24609 with the Rev. Craig Barber, the Rev. Allen Jessee and the Rev. Joe Barber officiating. Burial will follow in Ketron Memorial Gardens in Lebanon.

The family will receive friends from 6 to 9 p.m. Wednesday, July, 10, 2013 at the church.

Pallbearers will be Howard Long, Benjamin Long, Howie Long, Charlie Stacy, Doug McDaniel, Scott Blevins, Merle Martin, Doug Uzelac, Jeff Fancher and Kent Shelton. Honorary pallbearers will be Keith Hollifield, Donald Hollifield, Steve Chrisman, Dean Jones, Scotty Fletcher, Rick Thompson, Al Selner, Robby Adams, Mike Moore and Barry Bales.

In lieu of flowers, the family requests that memorial donations be made to the scholarship fund for the Baker children in c/o Adams & Co., P.C., CPA's., P.O. Box 880, Lebanon, Va. 24266.
