BLUEFIELD, Va. — Johnny Ray Sluss, 83, of 131 Grove Street, Bluefield, VA, went home to be with the Lord and his Beloved Wife Thursday, November 14, 2013 at Wake Forest Baptist Medical Center, Winston-Salem, NC. Born in Pocahontas, VA, he was a son of the late Clyde and Daisy Sluss.

Mr. Sluss was a  hard working man. He worked 32 years in the mines, working his way up to section foreman. He was proud to be a coal miner and loved his family. He attended the Church of God of Prophecy. He loved his grandcritters, Pooch, Hershey, and Cocoa.

In addition to his parents, he was preceded in death by his wife, Sadie Wyrick Sluss, 6 brothers, 3 sisters and his grandson, Travis Sluss.

Left to cherish his memory are his children, Robert Sluss and wife Debbie of N. Tazewell, VA, Tom Sluss and wife Phoebe of Jacksonville, NC, Connie Sluss of Bluefield, VA, Patty Farmer of Bluefield, VA, Randy Sluss and wife Misty of Bluewell, WV and Crystal Odle of Bluefield, WV. Brothers, Charles “Donald” Sluss and wife Sandy of Bluefield, VA, Terry Sluss and wife Sandy of Pocahontas, VA and Harry “Spud” Sluss of Pocahontas, VA. Sisters, Juanita Johnson of Pocahontas, VA, Audrey Hinkle of Pocahontas, VA, and Barbara Smith of Roanoke, VA. Grandchildren, Beth and Toby Duncan, April and Timmy Parks, Daniel and Shawnna Sluss, Daisy and Jamayal Sullen, Edward and Victoria Farmer, Samuel Farmer, Lonnie Ray Odle, Crystal Humphrey, Julie Humphrey, Don and Khris Humphrey and Dakota Bolton, 19 Great-Grand-children.

A service to celebrate the life of Mr. Sluss will be held Sunday, November 17, 2013 at 1:30 p.m. at Dudley Memorial Chapel with Pastor Tony Ellis officiating. Burial will follow in the Sluss Family Cemetery. Pallbearers will be Daniel Sluss, Toby Duncan, Timmy Parks, Timmy Parks, Jr., Edward Farmer and Samuel Farmer.

Friends may visit with the family today from 7-9 p.m. at Dudley Memorial Mortuary in Bluefield, VA.
