MELBOURNE, Fla. —
Sybil Compton McClaugherty, 89, died on Tuesday, June 25, 2013 at her home in Melbourne, Fla. She was born in Welch, and was the daughter of the late John C. Compton.
She graduated from Welch High School in 1941 and attended Keys Secretarial School in Norfolk, Va. She and her late husband Ret. Commander (USN) Bernard M. McClaugherty moved to Central Florida and after his death she made her home in Indian River Colony Club, Melbourne, Fla. She was active in her community and worked with children's organizations. She belonged to the Methodist Church in Falls Church, Va.
Survivors include her son, James Monroe McClaugherty of Montgomery, Texas, four grandchildren, seven great-grandchildren, and brother, John C. Compton of Virginia Beach, Va.
