JEWELL RIDGE, Va —
Mr. James Michael Kassay, age 76, of the Bearwallow area in Jewell Ridge, Virginia passed away on Saturday, June 15, 2013 in Bristol, Tennessee following a lengthy illness.
He was born in Berwind, West Virginia and was the son of the late Charles and Elizabeth Rusko Kassay, former natives of the Country, Hungary. He had served in the U.S. Coast Guard and had worked most of his life as an electrician in New York and was a member of the I.E.B.W. Local 25 of Long Island, New York. He moved fifteen years ago to the Bearwallow area of Jewell Ridge, Virginia. He had attended St. Mary's Catholic Church in Richlands, Virginia.
In addition to his parents, he was preceded in death by his son, Bruce Kassay; three sisters, Goldie Hornick, Ann Sheperd, Elizabeth (Sis) Jacobia and four brothers, Steve Kassay, Andy Kassay, John (Josie) Kassay and George Kassay.
He is survived by: His Wife, Donna Mae Goldberg Kassay. Two Sons: Greg Kassay of Richlands, Virginia, Jason Daniel and wife, Brenda of Charlottesville, Virginia. One Sister, Rose Sick and husband, Matthew of Palm Springs, Florida. Three Brothers: Jasper Kassay of Parksville, New York, Paul Kassay and wife, Susan of Long Island, New York, Alex “Spud” Kassay and wife, Teresa of Long Island, New York. One Daughter-in-law, Patricia Kassay of Port Charlotte, Florida. Seven Grandchildren: Heather Kassay, Sean Kassay, Desiree Kassay, Andrew Kassay, Zachary Daniel, Jaya Daniel, McKenzie Daniel. Three Great Grandchildren: Cameron Carlsons, Jaylynn Reganstien, Aryanna Kassay.
A Mass of Christian Burial will be conducted at the St. Mary's Catholic Church in Richlands, Virginia at 11:00 a.m. on Friday, June 21, 2013 with Father Burt Sare presiding. Interment will follow at the Clinch Valley Memorial Cemetery, Richlands, Virginia. Relatives and friends will serve as pallbearers.
The family will receive friends from 6:00 p.m. - 9:00 p.m. on Thursday evening at Hurst-Scott Funeral Home, 1401 Second St., Richlands, Virginia.
