Marjorie Farmer O'Keeffe

RALEIGH, N.C. — Marjorie Farmer O'Keeffe, 97, passed to life eternal on Aug. 24, 2012 in Raleigh, N.C. She was born  on March 31, 1915, in Toccoa, Ga., to Eunice Dodd Farmer and The Rev. James William Farmer also formerly of Bluefield, W.Va.

Marjorie married John Graham O'Keeffe of Bluefield on June 14, 1941, and had four children, John, Jim, Bill, and Margie.

In 1947, the Rhododendron Garden Club of Bluefield was formed with Marjorie as its first president. They instituted the “Clean-Up, Paint-Up, Fix-Up Week” Campaign. Their successful efforts were subsequently honored by the WV State and the National Garden Club Conventions.

Under her leadership as President, the Association for Childhood Education (A.C.E.) in Bluefield started the drive for the school for exceptional children. She also served as its state Treasurer.

Marjorie taught high school Math in Georgia, West Virginia, and North Carolina. In Bluefield she had her own radio show, "Shopping with Marge" at WKOY.

While in Bluefield, she was a member of College Avenue Baptist Church.

She was buried at Maplewood Cemetery in Tazewell, Va.
