RAVEN, Va. —
Hershel Raymond Keen, 61 years of age, of Raven, Va., passed away Friday, May 10, 2013 at his residence. Born February 13, 1952 in Richlands, Va., he was the son of the late Frank and Myrtle Proffitt Keen. He was a disabled coal miner, enjoyed hunting, fishing and ginsenging. Hershel was a loving husband, father, brother and grandfather and was of the Holiness faith.
In addition to his parents, Frank and Myrtle Proffitt Keen, he was preceded in death by his biological parents, William (Bill) and Emily Jessee Proffitt, brothers, Gene Proffitt and Curtis Proffitt.
Survivors include his loving wife of 39 years, Phyllis VanDyke Keen of Raven, Va.; sons, Kelvin Keen and Travis Keen and wife Victora both of Raven, Va.; sisters, Omie Keen and husband Jesse and Margaret Riley and husband Jim both of Ohio; brother, Jerry Proffitt and wife Becky of Indiana.
He is also survived by his grandchildren, Meranda Keen, Derrik Keen, Abigail Keen and Gracia Keen.
Funeral services for Hershel Raymond Keen will be at the Shortridge-Ramey Funeral Home Chapel of Keen Mountain, Va., Monday, May 13, 2013 at 11:00 a.m. with the Reverend James T. Hale officiating. Burial will follow in the Clinch Valley Memorial Cemetery, Richlands, Va.
Active pallbearers will be Charlie Monk, Hassell Davis, Billy Lester, Jackie Keen, Elmer Keen and Adam Quinley and Jess Keen.
Honorary pallbearers will be the Employees of Legacy Hospice, especially his caregiver, Teresa Underwood.
The family will receive friends, Sunday, May 12, 2013 after 6:00 p.m.
