Charles Raymond Scott, 92, of Bluefield, W.Va., passed away on Sunday, May 5, 2013 at Westwood in Bluefield, Va.
He was born November 1920 in Henry Clay, now an extinct coal camp in Pikeville, Ky. to the late Charles Hurt and Margie Beatrice Ellis Scott.
Charles grew up in Ashland, Ky., Bronksville, N.Y. and then Bluefield, W.Va. where he graduated from Beaver High School in 1939. He graduated from Bluefield College, Hampton-Sidney and attended University of Virginia before enlisting into the U.S. Navy where he received midshipman training at Notre Dame and was commissioned as an Ensign. He served his country in the South Pacific Theatre on LST 1034. He retired from the Naval Reserve after 20 years at the grade of Lt. Commander.
In 1943, he married Betty Jane Feuchtenberger. After World War II, he joined the Feuchtenberger Bakery (Betsy Ross Bakery) where he worked for 43 years.
Charles served as Elder and Deacon at Westminster Presbyterian Church where he was a member for 62 years.
He enjoyed the game of golf and was a former member of Bluefield Country Club for 30 years. He was very active in the Bluefield community by serving on eight boards through the years.
In addition to his parents, he is preceded in death by his sister, Patricia June Scott.
Survivors include his wife of 69 years, Betty Jane Scott and three sons, Charles Langdeon Scott and his wife Vickie of Sparta, N.C., granddaughter by marriage, Brigitte, husband Tim and great-grandson, Dalton Brown of Grundy, Va.; Thomas William Scott and his wife Nancy, granddaughter, Alyson Elizabeth and husband Brandon O'Hearn and grandson Thomas Andrew all of Brentwood, Tenn.; and Paul Randolph Scott and his wife Jeanette, grandchildren, Paul Robert and Jenny Anne of Hendersonville, Tenn.
A memorial service will be held today (Wednesday), May 8, 2013 at 2:00 p.m. from Westminster Presbyterian Church with the Rev. Johnathan Rockness officiating. The family will receive friends at the church today (Wednesday) from 1:00 p.m. until the service hour.
