LADY’S ISLAND, S.C. —
Sheila Fitzgerald Collins of Lady's Island South Carolina, formerly of Bluefield, WV, died peacefully Thursday, September 5, 2013. Sheila spent the past 21 years living near the beach she so loved.
She is survived by her husband, Rick Collins, her mother, Jean Fitzgerald of Lady's Island, son, Jason Collins of Sarasota, FL, grandson, Kyler Collins of Seymour, TN, brother, Michael Fitzgerald, sister-in-law, Carol Fitzgerald of Atlanta, two nieces, Megan Fitzgerald of Atlanta and Kelly Gray of Baltimore, and nephew, Andrew Fitzgerald of Atlanta.
She is the daughter of Jean Fitzgerald, of Lady's Island S.C., and the late Frank Fitzgerald, of Bluefield, and was preceded in death by her daughter, Heather Dawn Volk and son, Richie Collins of Kodak, TN.
Sheila graduated from Bluefield High School and attended Bluefield State College and Concord College while studying speech and presentation. She was the Sales Director at the Bluefield Holiday Inn and worked at Rish Equipment Company. Born in Harlan, Kentucky, she was an official Kentucky Colonel as appointed by Governor John Brown.
Sheila was known well for her work and loyalty to the Humane Society, flair for life, creativity and her infectious smile and laughter.
Cryptside services will be held today (Sunday), September 8, 2013 at 2:00 p.m. from the mausoleum chapel at Woodlawn Memorial Park in Bluewell with Deacon Don Hammond officiating. Those wishing to attend the service are asked to meet at the cemetery.
In lieu of flowers, the family asks that contributions be made to the Heather Dawn Volk Foundation, in the memory of Sheila's daughter, which provides scholarships to promising graduates of Bluefield High School. Heather Dawn Volk Foundation, 22 Egret Drive, Lady's Island, SC 29907.
