Reverend Don Blankenship, age 64, of Daniels, West Virginia, formerly of Cedar Bluff, Virginia died Friday, August 23, 2013 at his home. He was born June 1, 1949 in Tazewell County, Virginia and was a son of the late Granville Edward and Verdie Jane Baldwin Blankenship.
Rev. Blankenship had worked for several years as a coal miner with several area coal mines, but his passion and vocation for most of his life was preaching the Gospel of Jesus Christ. He was an ordained Minister with the Appalachian District of the Assemblies of God, having twice served as Section Presbyter for the Appalachian District. He was currently serving and was a member of the Calvary Assembly of God in Beckley, West Virginia. Rev. Blankenship was a veteran of the United States Marines, having served in the Vietnam War. He was a man who enjoyed being outdoors: golfing, hunting or riding 4-wheelers; but most of all he enjoyed being a Minster to people of all ages. He will be greatly missed by all who knew and loved him.
In addition to his parents, he was preceded in death by one brother, James Blankenship.
He is survived by: His wife of forty-two years, Janet Carol Blankenship. Daughter: Traci Michelle Watson and husband, Jimi of Tazewell, Virginia. Son: Rodney Dwayne Blankenship and wife, Kelley of Springhill, Tennessee. Sister: Ella Mae Webb of Gratton, Virginia. Brothers: Ronald Blankenship of Bridgeport, West Virginia, Irvin Blankenship of Richlands, Virginia, Danny Blankenship and wife, Elaine of Paintsville, Kentucky. Sister-in-law: Shirley Blankenship of North Carolina. Four Grandchildren.
Funeral services for Reverend Don Blankenship will be conducted at 11:00 a.m. Tuesday, August 27, 2013 at the Baptist Valley Assembly of God in Baptist Valley, Virginia with the Reverend John Jordan officiating. Burial will follow at Greenhills Memory Gardens in Claypool Hill, Virginia. Pallbearers will be Glenn Baker, Don Baker, Earl Keene, Jerry Williams, Sam Croy and C.L. Wilkerson. Honorary Pallbearer will be Danny Pettrey.

Military Graveside Rites will be conducted by members of the Casey-Shortt VFW Post #9640 in Richlands, Virginia.
