BLUEFIELD, Va. — Rev. Dr. Herb Lowe, 89, of Bluefield, VA died on Thursday, August 15, 2013, at Bluefield Regional Medical Center as a result of a fall. Born March 6, 1924 in Brooklyn, New York, he was the only child of Lester and Mary Lowe.

Since 1950 he was an ordained clergy member of the United Methodist Church, serving in both pastoral and denominational executive appointments in New York and New Jersey. Upon his retirement in 1991, following a ten-year pastorate at the First United Methodist Church of Asbury Park, NJ, he and his late wife, Carol June Shrader Lowe, relocated to Falls Mills, VA. Dr. Lowe began a 13-year chaplaincy at the Glen Wood Park Retirement Village in Princeton. He retired from GlenWood Park on December 21, 2004.

Survivors include one daughter, Rebecca Ellis Lowe and her husband, Carl Gomes and their son, Ryan Baker Gomes of Parrish, FL and Carl's children, Kevin Gomes, Becky Gomes and Matthew Gomes all of New Jersey; one son, Herbert F. Lowe, Jr. and his partner, Dr. Sandy Throckmorton of Bahama, NC; goddaughter, Sarah Tallent and husband Dennis of Maryville, TN and special friends, Betse Feuchtenberger and daughter Leila of Bluefield, WV. Surviving in-laws include Sam Shrader and wife, Judy, of Punta Gorde, FL, Charlie Shrader of Bluefield, WV, The Rev. Ruth Dinger and husband, Chuck, of Amelia, VA, Linda Crabtree-Barbour and husband, John, of Abbs Valley, VA, Judy Daniels and husband, Larry, of St. Louis, MO, Lena Veit of Christiansburg, VA, Connie Page and husband, Ted, of Salem, VA, Elaine Owens of Bluefield, VA  and Cheryl Riffe and husband, Denver, of Falls Mills, VA.

In keeping with his wishes, Dr. Lowe has been cremated and there will be no public services or visitation.
