John Donnelly, 74, of Iaeger, WV, passed away, Wednesday, October 23, 2013 in the Charleston Area Medical Center in Charleston, WV, following a short illness.
John was born September 7, 1939 in Roderfield, WV, a son of the late Charlie and Ida Mae Simpson Donnelly. He was a coal miner; he previously worked for U.S. Steel and was a foreman for Consol Energy.
In addition to his parents, he was preceded in death by a brother, Robert Donnelly, a son, John Donnelly, Jr., and a son-in-law, Darrell Addair.
Survivors include his loving wife of 29 years, Gertrude "Cricket" Donnelly of the home; his children, Patty Addair of Lexington, SC, Dennis "Danny" Donnelly and wife Ginni of Spring Branch, TX, Debbie Matney and husband Jerry of Lexington, SC, Miranda Witt and husband Ronnie also of Lexington, SC, Joyce Powell and husband Kenny of Beckley, WV, Alan Brant and wife Christina of Iaeger, WV, and Julie Johnston and husband Charlie of Rock, WV; and a grandson, Tommy Newman whom he had the enjoyment of sharing his home with. John also had eleven other grandchildren and ten great-grandchildren he cherished. He is also survived by a sister, Carol McCoy of Matewan, WV; two brothers, Millard Donnelly and wife Pauline and Frank Donnelly and wife Lynn all of Kenova, WV; a half brother, Saul Simpson, Jr. of Roderfield, WV; and four half sisters, Ruth Barnett of Davy, WV, Hattie Donnelly Brumfield of Waverly, OH, Virginia "Jenny" Donnelly of Paintsville, KY, and Ruth Donnelly Spence of Tomahawk, KY.
Funeral services will be conducted today (Friday), October 25, 2013, at 2 o’clock, with the Reverend Don Morgan officiating at the Chapel of Fanning Funeral Home in Iaeger, WV. Burial will follow in the Brant Family Cemetery on Beartown Mountain near Paynesville, WV. Serving as pallbearers will be family and friends.
Friends may visit with the family at the Chapel of Fanning Funeral Home in Iaeger, WV, today (Friday), October 25, 2013 from 12 noon until time of services at 2 p.m.
