Rosalie Oxley McKenzie, 99, of Harmony House in Lerona, formerly of North State Street in Athens, died Wednesday, October 16, 2013 at her residence. Born April 23, 1914 in Athens she was the daughter of the late Estel Francis Oxley and Delilia Martin Oxley.
She was a graduate of Athens High School and Concord University. Rosalie was a retired teacher with Mercer County Schools last teaching at Oakvale Elementary School with over thirty years service. She was a member of the Athens Baptist Church.
In addition to her parents, she was preceded in death by her husband, Modoc L. McKenzie; one sister, Margaret Shuppe; and four brothers, Harold Oxley, Ralph Oxley, Clarence “Tink” Oxley, and James Oxley.
Survivors include two brothers, Pearis Oxley of Gassney, SC and Bennie Oxley and wife Ethel of Athens; several nieces and nephews; and caregivers at Harmony House and Hospice Compassus.
Funeral services will be conducted at 1:00 PM, Saturday, October 19, 2013 at the Athens Baptist Church in Athens with the Rev. Charles Drake officiating. Burial will follow at Roselawn Memorial Gardens in Princeton. Serving as pallbearers will be Greg Oxley, Ed Oxley, Terry Oxley, Tim Oxley, Danny Oxley, Mike Tedder, Dickie Oxley, and Jimmy Oxley. Friends may call at the church from 12:00 Noon until the service hour on Saturday.
