ELSIE COLES DeWITT HAIRSTON

PRINCETON — PRINCETON — Elsie Coles DeWitt Hairston, 72, of 207 Lower Pine Street in Princeton died Monday, October 14, 2013 at her residence. Born November 30, 1940 in Lamar, W.Va. she was the daughter of the late, Melvin Coles and Jennette Hairston Coles. Elsie attended Giatto schools, graduated from Princeton High School, and attended Bluefield State College. She was a retired Dietician at Princeton Community Hospital with thirty years service. Elsie was a member of the Shiloh Baptist Church in Princeton for over forty years serving on many auxiliary committees until her failing health. However, she remained a consulting member for church functions.

In addition to her parents, she was preceded in death by her husband, Leroy Hairston; one son, Timmy DeWitt; two brothers, Grover Hairston and Romey Coles; and a special niece, Jennifer Spicer Green.

Survivors include three daughters, Janet DeWitt Edwards and husband, Mark, Tammy DeWitt Scott and husband, Emmanuel, and Pamela Hairston Payne, all of Princeton; one son, James DeWitt of Princeton; nineteen grandchildren; three great-grandchildren; one sister, Beatrice Burton Spicer of Princeton; one brother, John Coles and wife, Geraldine of Capitol Heights, Md.; and a host of nieces, nephews, cousins, and friends.

Homegoing services will be conducted at 12:00 noon, Thursday, October 17, 2013 at the Shiloh Baptist Church in Princeton with Bishop Charles Stores, III officiating. Burial will follow at Restlawn Memorial Gardens, Littlesburg Road in Bluewell. Family and friends will serve as pallbearers. Friends may call at the church from 11:00 a.m. until the service hour on Thursday.
