CEDAR BLUFF, Va. —
CEDAR BLUFF, Va. — Marshall Edward (Shorty) Honaker, Sr., age 77, of Cedar Bluff, Va., passed away Wednesday, September 11, 2013 at his home. Born March 28, 1936 in Russell County, Va. he was the son of the late, Rufus and Maudie Bowman Honaker. He was a member of the Virginia National Guard for 29 years.
In addition to his parents he was preceded in death by two brothers, Bobby Joe Honaker and Vernon Honaker; two sisters, Phyllis Breedlove and Mary Alice Weaver and one great-grandson, Tyler VanDyke.
He is survived by his wife, Alice Catherine Thompson Honaker; sons, Ricky Lee Honaker of Cedar Bluff, Va., Marshall Honaker, Jr. of Cedar Bluff, Va. and Larry Steven VanDyke of Cedar Town, Ga.; one daughter, Susie Copley of Bluefield, W.Va.; grandchildren, Jessica Sturgill, Christina Thompson, Kevin VanDyke, A.J. Martin, Cory Martin and Jessee Martin; great-grandchildren, Casey Thompson, Caroline Thompson, Conner Thompson, Kimberly Sturgill, Kayla Sturgill, Khloe Sturgill, Kole (Bob) Little, Phoenix VanDyke, Chole Martin and Ashley Jade Martin; and several nieces and nephews.
Funeral services will be conducted at 2:00 p.m. Friday, September 13, 2013 at Singleton Funeral Service Chapel at Cedar Bluff, Va. Entombment will follow in the Greenhills Memory Gardens Mausoleum. Pallbearers will be family and friends. Military graveside rites will be conducted by Casey-Shortt VFW Post 9640.
The family will receive friends from 6 to 9 p.m. Thursday at Singleton Funeral Service at Cedar Bluff, Va.
