Gene Arnold Bailey, 71, of Hinton Road (Speedway) near Athens, WV, passed away Thursday, August 29, 2013, in the Bowers Hospice House in Beckley, WV.
Gene was born May 14, 1942 in Bull Creek, WV, a son of Zink Bailey and the late Myrtle M. Bailey. He had been a resident of Athens, WV, since 2001 and was affiliated with the Church of God faith. Gene was formerly of Bull Creek and was a former employee of Massey Coal Company at Premier, WV. He also was a coal truck driver in McDowell County for many years.
In addition to his mother, Myrtle M. Bailey, he was preceded in death by one sister, Glenda G. Bailey and one nephew, Nicholas Akers.
Survivors include his wife, Barbara A. Bailey of the home; his father, Zink Bailey of North Welch, WV, formerly of Bullcreek; three sons, Gene A. Bailey, Jr. of Pinehurst, NC, Christopher M. Bailey and daughter-in-law, Penny B. Bailey of Cleveland, NC, Matthew R. Bailey and daughter-in-law, Tiffany L. Bailey of Bullcreek, WV; the joy of his life, his seven grandchildren, Gene A. Bailey III, Christian P. Bailey, Jameson S. Bailey, and Ethan D. Bailey all of Raford, NC, Isabella K. Bailey, Julianna P. Bailey, and Kristilyn F. Bailey all of Bullcreek, WV; three sisters, Madeline Cline, and Freda Birchfield both of Mohawk, WV and Wilma Prevento of North Welch, WV; five nieces, Andrea Tye and Candace Lester of Mohawk, Kimberly Blankenship of Kernersville, NC, Stephanie Young of Airport Rd., Bluefield, WV, and Ashley Dotson of Bluefield, WV; six nephews, Rockie Bailey and Conner Bailey both of Bullcreek, WV, Harold Cline, Jr. of War, Derrick Cline and Danny Dale Cline both of Princeton, and Stephen Birchfield of Shrewsbury, PA; and two special friends and buddies, Rev. Johnny Gray and Rev. Thomas Atkinson.
Funeral services will be conducted Monday, September 2, 2013, at 1 o’clock, with the Reverend Stanley Metz, the Reverend Thomas Atkinson and the Reverend Thomas Fife officiating at the Church of God in Isaban, WV. Burial will follow in the Coleman Cemetery at Bullcreek near Mohawk, WV. Serving as pallbearers will be family and friends.
