Colin W. Showalter, 71, of Bluefield, WV, formerly of Rocky Gap, VA, passed away on Wednesday, August 21, 2013, at Bluefield Regional Medical Center.
He was born on November 11, 1941, in Caretta, WV, to Laddie and Wesley Showalter. He attended school in Virginia and graduated from Tazewell County High School. Afterwards, he joined the United States Army. From there he worked at Kammer Furniture Company with his cherished “Kammer Family” for over 40 years. Colin was a member of Tynes Chapel A.M.E. Zion Church. He was a passionate gardener and an airplane enthusiast.
In addition to his parents, he was preceded in death by his devoted and loving companion of 31 years, Bernice “June” Brown.
Colin leaves to cherish his memory a sister, Beatrice Shanklin of Bluefield, WV; and his “special children” Frances Brown, Angela Brown and Letisha Brown Smith, several nieces and nephews and a host of other loving family and friends.
A Celebration of Life service will be held on Sunday, August 25, 2013, at 1:30 p.m. at A.P. McConnell Funeral Home, 260 Cherry Street, Bluefield, WV, with the Reverend Marviene Johnson officiating. Visitation with the family will be from 1:00 p.m. to 1:30 p.m. on Sunday, August 25, 2013, at the funeral home. Interment will follow the service at Hogans Cemetery in Rocky Gap, VA.
