BLAND, Va. —
Marvin Edward Brooks, 89, of Bland, VA, died Wednesday, August 21, 2013 at the Salem VA Medical Center in Salem, VA.
Born June 4, 1924 in Bluefield, WV, he was the son of the late Robert Brooks and Lua Virginia Henneger Brooks. Mr. Brooks was a veteran of the U.S. Army having served in World War II. He was a lifelong resident of the area and worked as a conductor for Norfolk & Southern Railroad.
In addition to his parents, he was preceded in death by two sons, Edwin Robert Brooks and William Harry Brooks; and several brothers and sisters.
Survivors include five grandchildren, Robert Cook, Eric Brooks, Scott Brooks, Tammy Bun, and Kevin Brooks; and six great-grandchildren, Robert Cook, Jr., Kevin Brooks, Jr., Brooklin Bun, Braxton Bun, Harry Brooks and Hardwick Brooks.
A graveside service will be held on Saturday, August 24, 2013 at 11:00 a.m. at Roselawn Memorial Gardens in Princeton with Minister Dan Webb officiating. Military honors will be rendered by the West Virginia Honor Guard. Those wishing to attend the service are asked to meet at Mercer Funeral Home by 10:30 a.m.
