BLUEFIELD — Mrs. Gertrude Platnick Houghton of 709 Spring Garden Drive, Bluefield, W.Va., passed away Sunday April 7, 2013.
She was preceded in death by her parents, Abraham and Anna Lieberman; brother, Benjamin Lieberman; sister, Ruth Cohen; and her husbands, David M. Platnick and William E. Houghton.
Survivors include two sons, Ivan M. Platnick and wife Marsha of Bluefield and Dr. Daniel M. Platnick of Washington, D.C.; two grandsons, David L. Platnick of Charlottesville, Va., and Brian S. Platnick and his wife Bryna of Evanston, Ill.; one granddaughter, Erin Negra and her husband Charles of Parkland, Fla.; three great-grandchildren; and Mr. Houghton's son, William and his wife Barbara; and his daughter, Anne Hopkins.
She will be remembered for many years of endeavor to have a library built in Bluefield, W.Va., and started many cultural activities. She was a professional musician starting at a very young age. She was also an airplane pilot and race car driver.
Graveside services will be conducted on Friday April 13, 2013 at 2:00 p.m. from Monte Vista Park Cemetery in Green Valley with Rabbi Stanley Funston officiating.
